I am a DE Cleric and am basically stuck at L 135. I don't have the expansion to do DoN cultural and the guide I have been using directs me to cultural till 160's.
I Don't have a pile of pp and would appreciate any help from those of you who have made it through these levels. I would appreciate any suggestions as to how to proceed. My best case would be to use vendor purchases for combine components and then sell back to vendors with the best possible return.
Thank you in advance for your help.

I just did this on my gnome, and I went towards 162 doing the cultural sewing kit. It was fairly expensive (18 pp of vendor bought metal for the combine), with little sellback (9 gold for the container, and I just left most of em for the Sweepers to clean). You can do this withou DoN, though.

You could also try Ornate armor - that looks to be just as expensive, though it probably sells back better.

Maybe another option would be killing goblins (in FM, Droga, Nurga) for their steel and temper components, then making those weapons. That farming didn't really appeal to me, though.

Good luck And remember to do your Symbol of Innoruuk quests for the clicky snare, haha.

Farm. Farmfarmfarmfarm. Farm your old cultural components, farm for things to make deathsteel, or farm high quality steel from the goblins in the basement of Highpass Keep (sp?) to make some armor up to 180s.

I recall using three paths through this part.

I ripped through the goblins in Frontier Mountains repeatedly. The parts for deathsteel smithing drop slowly, but I was also trying to work up Chardok faction (don't ask). This takes a long time, but it works out to be relatively cheap.

I also went on a few runs through Sol A, mowing down greens, collecting all the fine steel I could carry for ornate armor. This is way cheaper than trying to buy HQ ore from a vendor.

About halfway through this process, I discovered the recipe for the new cultural sewing kits. It was a money sink, but very fast. I finished up the run to 162 on these. You don't need to have completed any of the tasks or quests just to make the sewing kits.

While you do all this, scrounge up every hide and spiderling silk you can find for leather padding in the next stage...

I would not be afraid to start fine plate bracers at this point.

The only farmed components are the spiderling silks and hides for the leather padding. I still have trouble passing up a spiderling or pelt bearing animal from my fine plate farming days.

You may be able to find some pelts and silks for sale in the bazaar, and farming them up isn't too bad if you have to.

I did cultural sewing kits to 162 then fine plate. I had no interest in doing DE cultural when the sewing kits were all vendor purchased materials. However, sell back on these is basically nothing (less than 1p).

I would suggest Ornate Chainmail, at this point. Don't farm the HHK goblins though. Farm the HHK guards. Bring a nice stash of water and convert the FS Short Swords you get into HQ ore, and there into the HQ rings. Sell other swords for the plat to buy the silver, electrum, and gold bars you will need, as well as the patterns.

Once you get into the 160's (165 I think) start farming Crystal Caverns for velium ores. Sell everything else, and you'll usually have enough plat farmed up for the scrolls and tempers for the velium you farmed. Break the velium into small pieces and you'll be able to go to 222 on Enchanted Velium Bits with little to no out of pocket costs, other than Time Served.

Others will suggest farming the Tizmak Caves in the great Divide for velium weapons to break down into velium ore. I have not tried this, and do not know if you obtain sufficient plat to cover the scroll and temper costs for the ore you obtain in this fashion. It is the plat to cover those costs that I suggest selling the velium weapons you obtain in CC, instead of converting them into velium ore.

It is my understanding that only the GM stuff requires having the DoN expansion.
