  • Luclin: Trouble with Hollowshade War

    Hiyas,
I am on the Luclin server and having a hell of a time trying to figure out how to trigger the war. I have read the forums about several ways to do this, but none have worked. here is what I have tried,

    1) Just hangin in zone waiting to see a zonewide message about who is attacking who. Waited for about 45 minutes and nothing.

    2) At the little camp south of the islands, the ..a grimling chieftain.. was up so i killed him and his 2 bodyguards and cleared out the rest of that camp. Did this 3 times whenever the ..a grimling chieftain.. respawned, and nothing.

    3) I picked on the sonic wolves for a while keeping thier cave cleared as well as the outside area of all sonic wolves for about an hour, and nothing. Headed over to the owlbear cave and did the same thing, and nothing.

All in all I was in zone for about 5 hours with no luck at all. When a server patch came along a couple days ago, I had hoped that it would reset it and the war would happen. Again nothing. All the camps are in thier places and not doing a **** thing. So, am I doing something wrong or is the war on Luclin fubared? Any help with this is much appreciated,

    Thanks,

On the SoE official forums, they've been posting that the War has been broken and isn't working right. Killing the south chieftan sets off that "third" of the war usually (assuming north was NOT grimling already), but it's not been fixed yet.

If you need teh substances for shadowscream then you can kill the wolves that wander around Tenebrous mountains and the bears that inhabit paludial caverns.

Neither is as good as the islands in HSM, but it's something.

Yeah Kahmon, I went to Tenebrous Mountains to see how the farmin goes. It isnt bad really, I tag about 8 or 9 wolves then have my pet kill them all. The wolves are all over the zone. Got 20 substances in a short amount of time. But killin the owlbears in PC is horrible, so few there. Really would be nice to have an area like TM that has owlbears that can drop the substance since the war is fubared in HSM. Very frustraing...

but is the actual quest in Shar Vhal to get the implements working?
I destroyed my stuff a long time ago for room except the tunic. A few weeks ago I decided to try working on it again, but the guards would not accept my orders with me being the only person in the zone and them having shields.

You're not wasting your time Verbyx. I am also working on shadowscream and I recently just finished the task just a few weeks ago for my hammer.

The war is not broken it is working just fine. For Wolves to rule the land you need to go kill the furthest owlbear on the left all the way back into the cave. Do not stop there - go and kill the Grimmling Chief while you are waiting to hear the wolves sharpen those claws teeth, whatever the text is.

For owlbears run off and slay the grimmling again and then run and slay the wolf on the right back side of the cave. Sometimes they are named sometimes they are not.

Roughly a month ago, my husband walked a guildy through the quest to be able to get the hammer and anvil for shadowscream. Other than the problem that occurs if you take too long to return the repaired shield, we ran into no issues with the quest. (Solution to that is just getting another repair order to despawn the shield, then turning the previously fixed shield in immediately).

We've been doing a lot of shadowscream lately, and I've noticed a couple of things. To kick off the war, you must kill the grimling chief AND the defenders for the bears to win. After the bears take over if an attacker currently owns 2 camps and attacks the third, he will lose unless you interfere. If an attacker owns 1 camp (defender has 2), then he will win, unless you interfere. Typically, killing only 1 attacker is sufficient to prevent an automatic win.

I mention this, because for example, if the wolves own East and North, and you kill the bear chieften in the south to trigger a change to wolves, the bears will still win unless you kill all the defenders. This of course, means the wolves take over the entire zone, and to return to bears, you'd need to reset the zone by killing the wolf named in the fort. (Or, alternatively, you'd have to give the bears another camp by killing the wolf chief in the east, then kill the bear chief in the south as normal.)

If however, the wolves only own 1 camp, then killing the chief bear in the south is sufficient to ensure a wolf victory.
