Metallic Drake Scales

I'm skilling up my ranger to make some GM armor. There's tons of great guides on how to skill up. What I'm wondering is where to get my scales? I certainly can't afford to pay 15k each for them in the bazaar. My regular hunting group is back from retirement and leveling up from 65 to 70. I've read that the scales only drop in the high level instances. So once our average level breaks 68 and we get the harder missions, where can we hunt for scales? We're limited by the fact that we're in bazaar gear - we need the GM armor to break into harder zones. I know drakes are found in most of the zones - does anyone have any sense for what the drop rates are like in Lavaspinner's vs. Stillmoon vs. etc.?

They drop rarely in the Creator mission, that one should be do-able for your group, however to increase your chances of seeing a drop, don't do the usual "shortcut" to win the mission.

Kill all drake models regardless of whether they are in your path or not, since the more drakes you kill, the more chances the scales will drop.

I'd like to know more current information about specific DoN missions metallic drake scales can drop too. The Creator is definately one but are there any others? I've heard they can drop from Stillmoon Temple too.

My regular group has had metallic drake skills (and the occasional glossy drake hide for the tailor) drop in Animated Statue Plans in Stillmoon Temple, A Simple Task in Thundercrest, and Splitting the Storm in Thundercrest.

I'd say Lair of the Black Wing is the best mission to get scales, it's also very hard (65 crystals). You need a feign death puller or a seriously uber chanter to mezz, as mobs are 71+. But if I had a strong group intent on scales, this is where I would go.

There are also the don progression #3 missions in thundercrest, particularly the evil one (scroll) for a fair number of drakes.

Of course Nest missions will have the best drop rates, if you can handle the missions. Myself, I just farm runes and drops in WOS to sell and then buy the drake scales. I can duo a couple hundred k in a few hours usually, thats a nice pile of drake scales that I dont have to roll against 5 other people for.

Runes on AB sells for 5-10k each.. how the hell do you raise a couple of hundred k from that in a few hours?
