A few months back, I spent a good deal of time farming Piles of Gravel for the Human Smithing. My necro averaged a kill every 3 minutes, and was able to pull half the points on the towers and kill them before they respawned.

I generally averaged a pile of gravel within 1 or 2 clearings of the towers. Sometimes it was worse, couple times I got 3 in a row. It's just another streaky drop from a mob with a huge loot table.

Thank you again for responses everyone

Thank you kindly queletan for the info on drop rates that is very appriciated by myself and im sure by the rest of use cursed by pile of gravel hunting.

I am still to depressed by the drop rate to try don smithing again and will continue to do other stuff in game.

while i can't say much for the drop rate, i can say that gravel can drop from golem guys in blood fields. i got one from a couple of kills outside the castle area near dranik's zone line. so idea just how common it is, but it is someplace to maybe check out. biggest problem i see with hunting there is the shared mob table means you wouldn't have a lot mobs to kill to begin with.

The mob table in Bloodfields isn't really shared, I've duoed there with my druid for hours and hours, and I've figured out that even the roamers will always respawn as a certain mob type, for instance there's two roamers in the first field that will always be the golem types... their title may be different from time to time but their model will always be the same. I had the spawn of that field down to a science when I was trying to get certain drops from the named there.

Pile of gravel also drop from the stone golems in RCOD at the anguish signet camp.

About the same rate as from the stone wards in the Hole it seemed to me.. and harder to kill. And longer respawn time. And difficult to single pull and solo for most classes.

But they do drop in RCOD as well.

OTOH, RCoD is a better exp spot for a group in mid-high 60's. That's the tradeoff.

As a decently raid geared mage farming (CoA+), PoNightmare is easy farming for these gravels. Without medding I can clear the garg's 11 times, and they have a fast respawn timer (7 minutes I think). So in a few hours time, I can get a stack of gravels and a couple AA's.

However I do gotta feel sympathetic here. For the average non-raider with a full group meant for the level of armor this stuff makes, there is no way they will ever get as many gravels as I can. Normally when a low level group comes along, I just give the camp to them... tho it only happened twice and I do not surrentder to people who come to solo the camp too. But when the low level group does take the camp, the spiders are just right there. Gives my gnome tailoring skill-ups from thier silks which drop quite nicely

Take comfort in the fact that if you need piles of gravel, you will need shissar scales to skill up tailoring also using the cultural.

After the pile of gravel hunts.. and 300 smithing.. tailoring up using shissar scales seems like a cool drink of water on a very hot day.

It all finds a way to balance out.

this is only true for Humans and Drakkins. Barbarians and Ogres have to use shimmering ukun hides for tailoring. it doesnt balance it out for all.

Hehe... I lived, breathed, ate, and dreamed of Ssra enough to last me a lifetime I had to get a human and wood elf to 300 tailoring.

Now I gotta do it again for my drakkin and vah shir... I got a hopeless quadruple life sentence to Ssra on which there is no escape

Yeah, but it's not true for some races that use Piles of Gravel. For instance, Dwarves don't get a tailoring option at all.
