I tried using the fastest, lowest damage bow I could get my hands on without camping in NToV. (10/17 bow there would be ideal) but even then I hit way too hard. I may try to go pick up a leatherfoot bow (4/41) but thats still too slow imho

If you can kill the guys in one hit why would it be any better to AE those guys? It takes you at least one click to aggro the mob, after all, no matter how you're killing them, and if that one click gets you the kill, that's as fast as it can be.

Well if you are casting, then that 1 hit takes 2-5 or so seconds depending on your class.

        On every mob.

Compare to killing 50+ at once in that 2-5 seconds.

Killing them would be fine. Unfortunatly bow damage is highly variable and has no minimum damage. Even with attack pushing 2.2k I rather frequenly have mobs take off running. (Owlbears/Sonic wolves flee at 50% when badly overmatched)

As a 65 Rogue I can kill Owls/Wolves pretty quickly with melee, so much so that the majority of my time is just running from mob to mob. I was considering whether to try AEing with my cleric but since I would still have to run around and tag each mob, I figure it wouldn't save too much time.

Besides...I found I can farm the substances about twice as fast as the shadows in TS, mainly due to the slow repop rate there.

I'm not aware of any class minus wizard that have a way to instantly aggro a mob from range repeatedly, and it's well-known that running up to those guys doesn't aggro them very well (you could've cast anything you need by the time they actually notice you're there). Whatever you need to do to aggro the mobs in the first place, you could've killed the mob in the same time for any class besides the wizard.

I'm going to try with a bard to zip around and aggro them all with the low level AE song, and a cleric to nuke the horde.

the best puller in hollowshade war to ae is a 50ish level bard, the bears or wolves will aggro you due to proximatey. and bards can run fast so he wont die. Can get a nice trian

aside from that personnaly i was using 70 enchanter to pull and a 62 wizard to ae.
with the enchanter i ae stunned a bunch of them so was pulling trains of 50 plus or so. with runes and high hp wasnt dying.

You may have already tried this and found out but just in case... bard AE range was nerfed into oblivion. Also, if you are pulsing it's 6 seconds apart and 3 if you are manually hitting the song (or /melody 3 3 3 if your AE is slot 3).

You're much better off using a lower level bard to prox aggro as stated above. Levi, selos and tap a mob now and then. You can sit down near a group too but you may need to wait for a server tick for them to notice you.

I found that is was far faster in the end to simply kill each mob one on one than to round them all up and train them to my 70 wizard. I spent more time looting and destroying that way than just killing and looting only the essences (since you have to clear the corpses to get to lower ones). YMMV but good luck!
