  • PoP Farming for high end smithing raises...

I've got a steady group, we can farm any of the PoP planes for smithing material. We've been in PoFire for a while now, and after 1000s of killed mobs, I've got all of 20 magma crystals.

Question is, are any of the other planes better for farming smithing components? Am I killing the wrong mobs for crystals? (mostly killing inside C2, crystals drop off the pink 'genie' mobs)

It would be my guess that farming lower end zones would be faster, with more kills and therefore more drops to work with.

Nightmare items go to 295 trivial. Hurricane (BoT) goes to 308, but the "drop of pure rain" is still pretty rare. I'd bet you could wipe out places like PoN mephit caves pretty fast if you're used to doing PoFire.

Thanks, the xp will bite, but I'd like to get this knocked out. I just don't have the plat to go the sickle route, and I don't have the patience for shadowscream.

It'll probably be far far faster for you to just farm elementals and sell those components for cash to make sickles than skilling up directly on elemental drops.

Maybe not the answer you want to hear, but as you've noticed the drop rate is not so hot and the number of combines you need is rather large.

Yeah, but there is a lure to any path that allows you to get experience while farming. So the elemental route looks good on that front.

My advice is to combine whatever you can get your hands on. If you have the patience to grind exp while slowly collecting drops, go for it. But also look for some other things to do.

          Good luck to you!

I would say that earth is the easiest to farm for components. everything you need will drop at easily accessible spots. Water is way too painful as is air. Fire is mediocre.

That being said, you wont get a high rate of return but you will get decent exp.

As an aside, I looked at sickles yesterday (im at 249 skill no mod) and the massive amount of subcombines is daunting.

I just used up the remains of my shimmering metal and meldstones and am at a loss. Got the GM DON quest but havent followed up on it yet. Requires you to be in a task to get drops; can anyone suggest which tasks are good for this, am a DON noob QQ.

I have got 70 of 80 of the fractured drake claws for the Don Symbol quest in "Creator" . Plus got from lvl 67 to 69.

Of course you can make Don armor (rather than the symbol=aug) with just your base level ancesteral armor book.

From my experience, I agree with the above poster. Sell the elemental stuff and do sickles. Doing them in runs of 20 takes about 2 hours and isn't that bad really.

But, if you absolutely must do this via farming and xp, do MPG. Magnetic armor drops are rare, but the xp is very good and over the course of a day you'll get enough for 4-5 skill up chances.

There's no XP in SS armor... we make an AA every 30 minutes in Fire.

Least you'll have your AA's maxed by the time you cap smithing. Nothing wrong at all with only farming parts in XP spots. I just think most skillers are gonna cringe at the idea of spending that kind of time farming is all. Best of luck to ya though!

Time to do some farming of my own I guess I'm the main tank for our regular group, if I'm not there because I'm off farming, they've gotta find a tank who's hopefully not an idiot etc... I feel guilty. I'm an idiot, but I'm their idiot!

I have about 200 AAs to go and I think I'll max my AAs just from farming shissar scales for tailoring (291) and farming tae ew blood for smithing (276).

Yeah, it's probably pessimistic, but farming tae ew blood does take forever.

I think I've picked up about fifteen AA's farming Tae Ew already and only about three hundred blood so far.

I plan to do the Shis scale thing as well right after finishing smithing.

If you really dont wanna pharm green mobs. KT should be way faster then PoFire for some skill ups if you got that flag. The recipes that uses Meldstones are really easy to make and almost free of charge. Trivials at 282. And can be used to skill up both smithing and tailoring. Not the fastest path, but I'd say it's way much faster then pharming PoFire. And should sell nicely in bazaar.
