  • Good source for Essence of Wind and Windstones?

    Hello together!

Finally i reached 222 skill with the Enchanted Velium Bits and now i want to skill on further with acrylia armor.
Farming Acrylia is a pain but farming the Essence and the Windstones looks like an odysse
Perhaps anyone of you has a good hint for me where to find the **** essence and the stones.

    Thanks for your help!

They drop off the blue aliens in TM and also off air elementals in Twilight seas

Ok, the Essences seem to drop pretty often from the elementals in Twilight Sea. They can easily be farmed. The mob in TM are bad because they are roaming through the zone. Wind stone i haven't found one yet ...

If you farm the caves in Tenebrous Mountains, the grimlings there also drop Windstones occasionally. I ended up with 7 or 8 stacks of Windstones while farming acrylia for fletching.

Hm, farmed the Grimlings for 2 days and not a single windstone dropped...
Acrylia now i get from Acrylia Caverns where is a much better drop rate than in TM.

Try the hidden valley in Twilight Sea. I used to earthshaker there for stones and substances. To start I was selective and would only pull the blue guys but then I just started clearing the entire valley. A couple of clearings used to net me upto 1 stack of stones and multiple stacks of substances.

As a enchanter (assuming solo) your pulls will be much smaller than mine were solo. Emelentals can be a pain because once you are KoS its hard to be selective in what you kill. In the valley killing just blue aliens doesnt KoS you to the other ones that are around. Only thing you have to worry about jumping you as you run around are those annoying bugs.

TS is usually pretty empty on tribunal so I used to earthskaker hidden valley loot up then earthshaker elementals then head back to the valey. I never really kept track but I am almost positive stones and essence can drop in the valley because I didn't always bother to head back to elementals.

            Hope that helps.

Windstones are basically a "random gem drop" in Luclin. I've seen them in Ssra, in Greigs, in Tenebrous, in Scarlet Desert and in Twilight Sea.

My best luck finding them was always the blue aliens in Tenebrous though. Of course, this was back when I was in my 40's and getting fair XP there too.

If you are the right level to hunt here, Griegs is the place for windstones. We didn't have it in the database but I've been adding all the mobs that have dropped it for me as I've been farming for a couple days there. I *think* that it is an uncommon off everything in zone since I'm up to 10 different mobs now but they definately drop from everything listed.

I've been farming about 1k plat plus 1-3 windstones an hour there. With it a hot spot you can usually buy them from people in zone as well. On my server the zone is empty enough to farm - on live it may not be with groups in there but they drop enough that the groups in there should all have some to sell you if you go that route.

I got my essence of wind on the island with all the elementals. I just killed them all - the others all drop smithing components as well for cultural and although I can't use them I thought maybe I could trade them with someone later.

Edit: Just realized this is an old thread. Sorry for the bump but did want to let people know that windstones drop in Grieg.

Heh, I never had problems with getting enough windstones while farming acrylia in Grimling Forest and AC zones. I always had problems farming enough essence of wind to do acrylia armor. I skipped it and went to shadowscream armor. Maybe someday I'll get beyond that stage in smithing, but so many other things to do first...

Try the elementals in Sunderrock Springs. Seems Essence of Wind is dropping there, because I'm starting to find a few on the SS merchants (mage spell merchant, mostly), every now and then

Just for fun, Essence of Wind drops from the air elemental Supply Runners in Relic.

Acrylia is a pain to gather materials for. I never looked at is as a viable skillup method. I always thought Shadowscream was much easier.

                        Scarlet Desert

The Tro Jegs on the plateau in the Scarlet Desert are a good source for windstones. I quad kited there for ages and ended up with over 20 stacks of windstones that I kept, and I also sold many to merchants when I ran out of bank space. They also drop a lots of chunk of condensed flame that my fletcher used. I had over 100 stacks of it and only needed about 20 stacks for skill ups. The rest I sold to people buying in barter mode once my fletcher could no longer skill up using that path. Also the weapons they drop don't sell well to vendors but they do tribute for 6-10 points each which adds up given how many they drop. They also drop a lot of items used in spell research which got all my casters lots of skill ups. Overall they are a great tradeskill mob.

I am not sure on Chantie AE's these days, but as a ranger using hail of arrows I could kill more Grimlings outside the AC tunnels and in them up to AC than I could loot in seven minutes. I farmed half a dozen windstones in about thirty minutes for the trophies.

I am not sure I would use it as a smithing option though. If I remember right acrylia armors made me happy to do Shadowscream

I agree, acrylia armor is not a good skill-up path compared to shadowscream. You'll get a far better combines-per-minute-farming ratio with shadowscream.

However, if you have scads of leather padding from your earlier smithing days and acrylia from your earlier arrow fletching days . . . farming a few windstones and essence of wind can be very profitable in the bazaar.

I'm using Acrylia Breastplates to breach the gap between cestus's and shadowscream. Making some nice plat doing it too. And it's only a 10 pt gap to fill, so not too much farming. Essence of the wind is proving to be a little difficult but not much more than farming 2 swirling shadows per shadowscream combine.
