• Skill up after Fineplate? Pls help

Hello all, this is my first time posting on EQTC

As the topic stated, what should I make for skill up after Fineplate becomes trivival (188)? I read posts that Acrylia and Shadowscream are the most popular ones, how difficult is it to obtain the pieces needed for them? Any suggestions besides making them for skill up?

What are the hell levels? About how much pp and how many attempts for one skillup?

How about skill mod? I saw someone with 15% skill mod. I have a smithing geelock and it gives me only 5%, is there other items that give us more skill mod?

Thank you for reading my post, any suggestions and idea would help a lot.

There are items out there with higher skill Mods.

Most people go with Shadowscream. Takes 3 quest hours *there about* to get the items needed for the Shadowscream armor (hammer and anvil?). The things needed arn't to hard to find but I personaly prefer shadowed men (I don't get so lost in the Karana's and commonlands as I do in luclin.)

If you don't mind just camping minor things, I started on my cultural armors (buy lots of ore, have an enchanter nearby to enchant it. Get that done in bulks then go get temper. I need to restock my supply soon. ) Of course if you don't have cultural armor its out of the way. (And a lot of people will tell you to do Shadowscream, I think total its about 9 plat per attempt. But I don't like luclin very much )
What you see is what you get, and if you call me a smurf again you can forget about your next heal!

Shadowscream is literally just that, you'll be screaming from all the components you have to collect (tho it's dirt cheap).

To keep your sanity (if you're in a high level guild, or have some friends in a high level guild), see if you can get ahold of a +10% or +15% smithing item and skill up to 212 with the ethereal energy (skill restricted combine).

I just finally got ticked from collecting all that junk for shadowscream and went and splurged a LOT of plat skilling up from 200ish to 220 (210-212 doing bricks with +5% modifier) making bars of pure velium (3 enchanted bars of velium, coldain smithy hammer, purified water (2 flasks water + celestial essence in brew barrel), and coldain velium temper), not trivial at 250, averaged a skillup every 15 or so bars, cost is around 825 per attempt with absolutely no sell back (as the final result is no drop).

But at least I still have my sanity!!!

/cackle

And oh yes, once you hit 220 you can skill up to 227 with basically free points (go talk to Aid Grimel atop the library and say 'I am well versed in the art of smithing' a ton of times and get a ton of breastplates). With that breastplate and acid wash (3 celestial essences + acid in brew barrel) you can get basically 7 free skill points, at around 8 plat per attempt, so it's a heck of a lot better and easier. (Rumor has it you can use a +% modifier to get the breastplate from him now after this patch, I know it didn't work prepatch, but a friend told me it did now and has been working for her)

Haha yes... IF you are BERTOX flagged.

/sigh

Be a month or two before my guild can kill him and I dont know how my servers top guilds feel about invite flagging.....

But thanks for mentioning this, if I can ever get invited to a Bertox kill it'll be handy!

These are some useful comments, thanks

What are the items that gives more than 5% skill mod? And do they only affect the successful rate like te smithing geelock?

I am a Dwarven smith, is cultural smithing a good option for skill up??

Still not sure what I will be end up doing for skill up, will probably try out the options available out there and see which is the best. Again, any suggestions would help a lot, thanks

..

I believe the 15% smithing mod drops off of XTC in SSRA, tho I'm not 100% positive. I believe that seru's guards drop 10% smithing modifiers.

Yep XTC hammer from Ssra is +15% smithing (need a raid force of maybe 30 to 45+ Level 60+'s - dependant on Levels/AA's).
Hammer may well be a rare drop. Out of 6 or so times my guild killed him, he's dropped hammers only once so far.

There is also a +15% smithing item in VT.
To enter VT requires a large force to kill Emperor of Ssra Temple (after each person painfully camps a key to get in to kill him) and then you have to spend LOTS of time camping the 10 shards for the VT key....

Praesortium Bikun in Sanctus Seru drops a Large Race +10% belt (need around 3 groups of 60+ chars including a mages/wizards as he is unslowable, hits for 500's and banishes MT's).

Given those choices... you may be stuck with geerlok for a VERY long time.
Thankfully I am a Barbarian and can try to get friends to help kill Bikun.

No idea about Dwarf Cultural sorry, check the recipe pages and then try to find some stuff.....

What class/level are you Gabrielma?

Shadowscream is not so bad for classes that can AE or that have high level pets.

Id like to get some feedback on what the skill-up ration is after 188.

Right now, I am getting about 1 skill up every 5 attempts. My skill is 171 and I am doing FP Helms, my STR is 255.

Thanks

I think the common idea is there is a hell zone somewhere in the ~190-210 area. That's where I'm bogged down at ATM.

[Old] Dwarven cultural is a pretty viable skill up path, but the normal armor (non-enchanted, non-imbued) trivials in the Fine Plate area. That means you need an Enchanter to hit the bricks before starting. Cost on a 3 sheet combine is roughly 280p per try (less if you farm the padding and tempers yourself). You need 9.5 large bricks of Brellium (all enchanted) for the 3 sheets and jointing. Plus the padding and temper.

You can get to ~195 on 1 sheet combines, ~206 on 2 sheet combines and ~215 on 3 sheet combines.

I'd stay away from the Enchanted/Imbued unless you have a special order (an extra 131p for the ruby, plus hunting down a Brell Cleric to imbue it.). The Enchanted (only) has a pretty wide market and better AC and stats then the Warrior Quest armor for the old world and Luclin. Very usable up to the high 40's- low 50's and Thurg quest armor. Plus, Frogloks can wear it.

Once you hit 215, you're at a cross roads. You're basicly looking at Acrylia (lots of farming rare drops) or Shadowscream (lots and lots of farming common drops, plus the no rent swirling shadows). Black Acrylia weapons are another option, but it seems like that's as viable as Acrylia armor.

For those heavy in the purse, Mistletoe Cutting sickles are also used as a skill up method, but at ~300p/attempt, it's kinda spendy but all vendor bought so there's on farming. The upside of those is that there is a huge market for those. At 215 (225 w/ smithing geerlock) skill, I'm thinking you would have to sink a lot of money in to see a big skill gain though. It may be possible to sneak a few Brellium bracers in for some extra opperating capitol, though. Not sure about success rates on 1 sheet new cultural at 225 skill.

You need to track down a skill 210+ Brewer.
(its a skill restricted 220 combine so 210 + Geerlok should do it).

Buying them in the bazaar would cost a fortune!
