With the new conversion of Velium weapons into Velium, I wanted to try to get my Smithing from 188 to 222 with Enchanted Velium bits and decided to try my luck in the Tizmak Caves, since I remembered those mobs carrying velium weapons.
I made 5 runs, each run yielded me 50-55 weapons. Each run took me between 40-60 minutes, starting from the entrance of Thurgadin.
The great advantage of these caves is the sheer amount of mobs in them and the fast respawn. The caves have a simple layout (as opposed to Crystal Caverns, lol!) and consist of 3 corridors each with their own entrance, that are connected in the back, like a big E. Small open areas are lining the corridors. Very open and flat design. Just wind through the corridors in a pattern that you like: I never could entirely clear the caves before respawn, so there is an endless supply of mobs in a small area. I'd say there are at least 4-6 times as many mobs as there are orcs in Crystal Caverns. They aggro nicely so you can sweep them up real nice.
I am a 66 BL so I just aggro them, pick out the ones wearing weapons and kill those fast, and let the others just trail behind me, while the pet eats away at them. I'd say 1 in 4 Tizmaks carry a weapon, do not let yourself be discouraged if you find only 3 weapons in the first corridor, it *will* even out. Just kill them all.
The good thing about the weapons is that they yield 1 small brick of Velium and 1 or 2 Small Pieces of Velium when broken down(Great Staff and Morningstar yield 2 pieces, warhammer yields 1), so instead of that Small brick of velium that you loot in Crystal Caverns taking up an entire slot, you get more out of that slot with a velium weapon in it. Even though you can stack the small pieces of velium that you loot in CC, the small amount of Orcs and the respawn can not compete with the Tizmak Factoryline of Velium.
52 weapons averaged to 160-180 small pieces of Velium, when I broke down the Bricks too. For an hour of farming, including travel to and from the forge in Thurg!
The caves are very near the Thurgadin entrance, and there is a convenient PoK port to GD or an even more convenient Druid port, which stops practically at the door of the Tizmaks.
If you want to get to 222 Smithing, forget everyhting else, go farm velium weapons in the Tizmak caves.
Note: I tried AE-ing a bit with my Druid, but some of the Tizmaks are Sowed, while others are not, so I had trouble rounding them up nicely: I often lost the "clump" of non-sowed mobs also beacuase the pathing is not great in the caves. So if you are a pet class, keep Summon Companion memmed. AE-ing is also not that much faster, since the mobs go down real easy.
Note 2: they drop Great Staves, warhammers and morningstars. No use looking for daggers(sometimes hard to spot), even the casters wield 1h and 2h blunt.
