  • Tizmak Caves in GD: 52 velium weapons in about 45 minutes. For your Velium needs.

With the new conversion of Velium weapons into Velium, I wanted to try to get my Smithing from 188 to 222 with Enchanted Velium bits and decided to try my luck in the Tizmak Caves, since I remembered those mobs carrying velium weapons.

I made 5 runs, each run yielded me 50-55 weapons. Each run took me between 40-60 minutes, starting from the entrance of Thurgadin.

The great advantage of these caves is the sheer amount of mobs in them and the fast respawn. The caves have a simple layout (as opposed to Crystal Caverns, lol!) and consist of 3 corridors each with their own entrance, that are connected in the back, like a big E. Small open areas are lining the corridors. Very open and flat design. Just wind through the corridors in a pattern that you like: I never could entirely clear the caves before respawn, so there is an endless supply of mobs in a small area. I'd say there are at least 4-6 times as many mobs as there are orcs in Crystal Caverns. They aggro nicely so you can sweep them up real nice.

I am a 66 BL so I just aggro them, pick out the ones wearing weapons and kill those fast, and let the others just trail behind me, while the pet eats away at them. I'd say 1 in 4 Tizmaks carry a weapon, do not let yourself be discouraged if you find only 3 weapons in the first corridor, it *will* even out. Just kill them all.

The good thing about the weapons is that they yield 1 small brick of Velium and 1 or 2 Small Pieces of Velium when broken down(Great Staff and Morningstar yield 2 pieces, warhammer yields 1), so instead of that Small brick of velium that you loot in Crystal Caverns taking up an entire slot, you get more out of that slot with a velium weapon in it. Even though you can stack the small pieces of velium that you loot in CC, the small amount of Orcs and the respawn can not compete with the Tizmak Factoryline of Velium.
52 weapons averaged to 160-180 small pieces of Velium, when I broke down the Bricks too. For an hour of farming, including travel to and from the forge in Thurg!

The caves are very near the Thurgadin entrance, and there is a convenient PoK port to GD or an even more convenient Druid port, which stops practically at the door of the Tizmaks.

If you want to get to 222 Smithing, forget everyhting else, go farm velium weapons in the Tizmak caves.

Note: I tried AE-ing a bit with my Druid, but some of the Tizmaks are Sowed, while others are not, so I had trouble rounding them up nicely: I often lost the "clump" of non-sowed mobs also beacuase the pathing is not great in the caves. So if you are a pet class, keep Summon Companion memmed. AE-ing is also not that much faster, since the mobs go down real easy.
Note 2: they drop Great Staves, warhammers and morningstars. No use looking for daggers(sometimes hard to spot), even the casters wield 1h and 2h blunt.

You can kill stuff in Skyshrine and just use their forge to convert any weapons that they may drop on top of the velium.

I just got my smithing to 200 on enchanted velium bits last night, so this is highly relevant to where I'm at. I've never attacked Tizmaks with any of my characters. Not sure it does me any good, but as I policy, I avoid killing things that don't attack me.

My highest smith is a 65 ranger, so I went to Crystal Caverns and had a blast mowing down orcs. Also has the advantage that those vendors in town often have velium and crystalline silk for sale.

And on the way in and out, I knocked off a couple stages of the coldain ring quest. Got me thinking that I can now solo and MQ the 8th ring for my paladin. He nearly had it once long ago, but lost all his work and started over.
I tried combining Celestial Solvent, a Raw Rough Hide, Rough Hide Solution and a Skinning Knife. But the result was such an oxymoron, it opened a rift into another universe. I fell through into one of Nodyin's spreadsheets and was slain by a misplaced decimal.

Killing in Skyshrine, wouldn't that ruin your CoV faction? Also, the Tizmaks are level 25-29: they are incredably easy and there are a boatload of them. I kill one in 5-10 seconds or so. I just keep running and sweeping them up with the pet slaughtering them behind me, that's not going to happen Skyshrine, I think. Not very familiar with SS though.

Neebat: the Tizmaks are on their own faction, so when you kill them, that is the only faction that goes down. However, I hear you when you do not want to ruin a faction that you start out dubious or higher with. I am like that too, just not with the Tizmaks.

Vendordiving in Frosttone city can be lucrative though. If you need Crystalline silks also and just enjoy the great layout of CC and the fun little Dwarf city, go CC. But the small amount of Orcs and the subsequent waiting for repops is usually what gets to me there. So if you need lots of Velium, fast, go Tizmak. Also, every filled slot with a weapon will yield you 3-4 pieces. Drops in CC are just too slow to compete with that, imo. I did CC too, and it was slow. I did 188 - 222 skill in 5 Tizmak runs(45-52 weapons each run, an hour max per run). Last run I was left with 142 pieces still, that I just sold for 20pp each this night. Oh yeah, of those 5 runs, I used 80 of the bricks to make boning too, so if I had broken those down too, I would have ended up with 180 more Pieces.

I am not even going to bother to stock up for Velium Boning for the Velium Furs. One Tizmak run is good for a lifetime of fur-farming......

Now what to do after 222.

SS will ruin your CoV faction, heh, but at the time with a bank and a forge it was convenient, but now with the Tizmaks, oh the returns are very nice.

My brother was experimenting with velium and found the tizmaks great. BUT he found the entrance to icewell keep, down near loremaster boranain, even better.

There are 9 dwarfs there, and each drops a velium longsword. By the time you've looted all of them and ran to to the forge and broken them down, they've repopped. They respawn amazingly fast, so you can constantly farm them, and they are guaranteed to drop a velium longsword every time. My brother killed way more than 50 dwarfs and didnt drop below ally faction, just so you know.
Inside Icewell Keep is also a gem, but the dorfs there are harder. Stick to the initiates in Thurgadin.

The ruining of the Velium Market has TRULY begun, it seems. Those dwarves are going to have a very short lifespan for the next months, I'm thinking, though some people may be afraid of their faction. But if faction keeps up that well, then I see people not be worried about it. If this keeps up, I can see them upping the price on that Enchant Velium spell maybe. Getting to 222 skill is very easy now. Though it still costs you 19+pp for the spell and temper. So it's not like Brewing yet.

Lots of Blue Diamond cultural armors use large bricks and blocks.

Small Velium Bricks are used to make Velium boning, which is used in the Cobalt Drake/Black Panther/Haze Panther furs, which are for tailoring up to 252, and the Haze Panther stuff might even go to 335 still.

Ah, so they were all brought down to 252.
