300 smithing WITHOUT 1 sickle

I decided to go the pure velium bar route today, and bought 200k worth of velium to get started.. But after enchanting it and going to work I'm having an odd problem :/ Every 4-5 combines max I get this message ' You cannot make this combine while your held slot is full ' or some such. A few seconds later I get kicked to the server select screen. Its really frustrating !! Anyone know what causes this ?

Seems like you're possibly combining too fast (lag issues) and the game thinks you're trying to do a combine while you have something in your hand: the results of the previous combine... which haven't yet "vanished" due to the duplicate Lore Item effect.

I had something similar happen this weekend. I had just failed a magnetic combine, and salvaged a copper sheet on the failure. I was using the old UI, so I didn't just use the auto-inventory button after the combine. After putting my smithy hammer back in inventory, my cursor was empty. However, the salgaved copper sheet was still on my cursur, as far as the game was concerned. I was unable to make further combines, getting the same error. I closed the forge in my guild hall and moved around a bit, so I don't think it was a simple lag issue. Then, when I tried clicking an empty inventory slot to put away the copper sheet that I knew was there (even thought it wasn't showing), I crashed to server select.

So, I don't know if it's a lag issue, or just EQ having difficulty managing items on the cursor.

That sounds like the same problem I was having. Slowing down my clicking and closing the container when salvage goes off seems to have stopped it from happening for now.

I recognise this problem.

What happens is, you salvage an item using old UI. While the item may go back into your INV a ghost of the item stays in the container. If you try and put another item into the same slot the salvaged item was, you crash/get error.

tbh I think the ghost is the item but not returned to your inventory.

But that is the error, salvaged items staying in the container... I have /bugged it suggest you do as well.

Well, not all tradeskills are plat sinks... My shaman went from 287 Alchemy to 300 and overall cost was -17k (in other words, he came out 17k ahead). But not all skills are like that... Smithing is a BIG plat sink.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the server interprets this as creating a duplicate item - I know they boot you right away, if a dupe is made...

Once, while looting my corpse, I got a bit of Lag, I looted my BP, but the original was still on the corpse and I had another one on my cursor. I know it wasn't just me seeing things or lag, cause It give me the "you cannot have more than one lore item" text when I tried to get the other. About 5 seconds later, I was on my way to the server select screen. When I got back, I just had one BP again.

I'm glad tho - duplicating items really goofed up Diablo.

and with about 25 for each skill up well ... thats alot

is all, what i get. And i do not know, what is wrong with that. I tried forge, tanaan forge and vale forge. Always: you cannot combine in this container type!

Try makeing puriflyed water first two water flasks and a celestial essense in brew barrow:-)

Yes, i know the list... and i take puryfied water and the velium bars are enchanted too.

But no combine possible.

Are you sure you're using the Coldain Smithing Hammer and not the Velium Smithy Hammer. For the coldain one, you need to do the rescue tanik (?) quest that is part of the Coldain Ring quest. It does require you to be non KoS to the coldains to get, but fortunatly, it is not NoDrop, so if you find someone else who has one, they can lend (or rent) it to you.
