  • Alternate to 250?

I am currently at 223 skill and wanted to get to around 250 or maybe higher before I start sickles.

Predicament is that I do not want to farm wailing/shreiking substances at all. I am ok if the price is high but I am not really interested in doing extensive farming. I am a troll and I have up to master book for cultural, currently working on grandmaster.

From the sounds of it, you seemed to have made up your mind already.. but what it comes down to is
    a) do you have the cash to go the quick easier route (if I can call it that) or b) the patience to do shadowscream /cultural.

Skill ups take work. Unless you wish to devote the time/patience.. they will seem very few and far between.

Dumb as it sounds if you have money & time to spend. Get the smith mastery AAs and salvage 3. Then, make white gold inlay's (Trivial 307) Sell them, finance magnetic armor path.
If you get a good baz price on the dust of discord 5-10K per in baz
you can sell 'em for 15-20K. Money maker + chance to skill up. Hate sickles all ya want though, it's better than the hollow shade war imo. But I'm on Zek so it tends to get ugly there fast

White Gold costs 1049p each, purchased most commonly in PoK

You need one White Gold, one Empty Vial (negligable price) and one Dust of Discord. Trivial is over 300... the exact number I can't recall immediately.

At 250+ skill I almost always succeed on this combine.

Find out what the going rate in the Bazaar for a White Gold Inlay is. Then you know what your target buying price for Dust of Discord should be... usually somewhere around 1500p (or more) lower than the finished Inlay price.

Magnetic armor as a skillup path is my favorite. If you can get some cash together to initially invest (probably in the range of 10-20kpp, depending on server economies and luck), it can be an incredibly profitable and simple means of skilling up. Does take a little time (as the finished products do have to sell in the bazaar ), but it works wonders in my opinion.

Another potential option is some of the GoD weapons (look in recipes, by era, Gates of Discord, smithing. Pick a weapon type, sort by trivial. The hand-to-hand Cestus recipes normally take half the ingredients, but sell less well due to market being frequently flooded). If you watch your bazaar, and experiment with the various types (1handers, 2handers, slashing/piercing/blunt/h2h), can find some nice niche markets that will probably allow you to break even or profit. I'm not sure how true this is anymore, but I can still sell Velium Gemmed Daggers at about 2x-5x cost per attempt.

I have Smithing Mastery 3, because you have a better chance to skill up on success. Trivial is 307 as I mentioned before. I've been doing the inlay since 220, I'm 232 now and I fail maybe 1 in ten of them. If you are a gambler you can also attempt Black gold inlay's. I fail about 25% of them, but they are a money maker like none other. Buy the discordant scoriae for 100K or so, inlay's sell for 200K easy.

you are really lucky - bazar is down the drain on kael drakkal - there are 30 vendors at most and 4-5 prospects on prime time. I won't get any material out of bazar nor am I able to sell at recent prices.
eg. sickles are 200 and the solstice robes at 50.

I have bsm3 and salvage3 and with 233 kill +mod 15% I still fail 40% on black gold inlay where as I had 15 out of 15 for white gold inlay.

Currently I skill with magnetic armor - my guildies are supplying me with components and are getting the armor in return for their twinks. Since the recent patch it's a good skillup path - I have had 4 skillups on 8 combines (and I hate the fails on the patch plates triv 162 skill 266 STR 460 and I fail 2 out of 5 )

Since yesterday I discovered an other possibility - muramite xxxxxx for the muramite armor We camped KT hynid camp for 3 hours and I got 5 meldstones, will try it this evening. I hope its classified same as magnetic armor with higher skillup chance and I'll have a win-win situation for my guild - they supply the meldstones and I supply the guild with the components for muramite armor

There's no such thing as a higher chance to skillup than normal combine as of right now. That said Magnetic Armor isn't a bad way to go. If you don't care about resell value, you can even break up the finished product back to magnetic plates.

Though I know you are right Phantron that there are no known recipes that give a higher to skill up % chance (yet), I still find it odd in the end.

I remember doing othmir furs on my old tailor and getting way better skill ups than Velious leathers. This I later found out was because I was getting less fails and that in a round-a-bout way gives you a higher chance to skill up.

But then, these recent events have had me completely dumbfounded.

I have been doing the master's tailoring for skill ups lately in about 80 combine batches. (40 wrists 248 triv, 20 gloves 262, 20 sleeves 290 *trivs may be slightly off)

As of now, 120 wrist combines have netted me 5 skill ups with only 7 failures.
60 Gloves have netted me 4 skill ups with 8 failures.
40 Sleeves have netted me 6 skill ups with 27 failures.

Now, again, this is another small sample that may not say much, but it seems like a lot of my skill ups have been happening on failed sleeves vs successes on gloves and wrists. That and the harder the combine is to make, the more skills I have gotten. *shrugs* right now, I am attributing it to dumb luck with the RNG, but I think I may actually keep closer track on the numbers to see what's actually going on here.

Curious as to how Tomic is doing now with his smithing. Our advice helpful at all?
I'm sorry to hear that Emandes, I'm from Zek as previously mentioned so it's fierce competition for zones in the first place. So you don't get alot of people turning up with the items in the first place. Sickles are 1500, Solstice robes are maybe 250. Also and this saddens me, alot of the tradeskillers left for bluer pastures when the merger happened. /Movelog sucks!!!
So now it's the people like me that run the show for the most part. Huge void on Zek for top end tradeskillers. Hell I can advertise in PoK for smithing and rake in the money. 3k per combine, and they flock to me with all sorts of non trivial combines. Say no charge on failure and they assume all risk. You're set, dunno if that'll work on other servers. But if you are feeling frisky, you'll be welcome on Zek. Tradeskill community as far as I have seen is me and four of my guild mates. If we aren't making it, it's not being produced kind of thing. Muramite armor is a great money maker btw =)

PS if any skillers on Zek read this, for god's sake contact me!! I want to keep my monopoly rolling on high end stuff!

Bazu pirces had been dropping on E'ci recently, but I still managed to sell some without tanking my prices. I'm not sure what the recent merger with Tunare will do to the Magnetic/Bazu market. That market has been very good to me in the past though.

hrhr gothera-CT you're cute - if I am lucky I will find 1 bazu blood in basar for 2k+ that's all. I've never seen any bazu blood drop when I've been to NC or WoS camping there. Bazu were dropping bazu plasma nearly every kill in WoS.

Now that I am lvl 70 I won't group in NC or WoS for farming bazublood and I am not able of soloing any bazu. I work through mistle sickles and when available magnetic armor.

SoE made the master's armor path nearly impossible by defining "pile of gravel" as component to it - they are not soloable. Whereas for tailoring its shissar scales - no problem whacking these snakes till they dropped a stack or two.
