    First hello all here,

i'm started smithing 2 day ago and now my skill is 156, but i should get 188 after patch today. I have 150 Silk Threats and 80 lq pelz so i should be ready for the next session.

BTW: All Farmed i didn't buy anything and i don't want to buy anything in the future.

So my question is what shall i do after 188 skill?

shadow scream steel armor ? Heavy Farming.
field plate (Smithing - Freeport forge)?
full plate (gold) (Smithing - Qeynos forge)?

For Quenos i would need a brewer but i think a friend of mine could help me there.
For Freeport i would need to go fish? But my skill there sucks completly.

    Any advice?

Personally, I do the Freeport route. For me it's easier than farming in zones like Hollowshade for the Shadow Scream Steel armor. For the Freeport thing, you need to farm (or buy) the following items:

    - Pelts (easy, low level critters)
    - Spiderling Silks (again, low level critters)
    - Saltwater Seaweed (fished up in Ocean of Tears, or Timorous Deep)
    - Mugs of Sea Foam (I usually buy these at like 10-15pp each in the Bazaar, check NPC vendors - hunting for it doesn't pay off, really)

The Qeynos armor would be good too, if it didn't require that Royal Temper. Now that Griffenne Blood is not too hard anymore, the real pain is the Essence of Sunlight. You can easily get over a dozen Sea Tempers before you'd get one Royal Temper. Also, Qeynos armor is more expensive to skill up on, due to the Full Plate Molds you need for those - they are more expensive than the normal Plate Molds.

If you go fishing for the Seaweed, your skill will go up quickly. Don't worry, it can only reach 200 skill maximum in fishing and if you really want to, you could buy your skill all the way to 200 at your NPC Guild Trainer.

I am in the process together with some friends in skilling up a human smith myself. We don't want to farm no drop components, so we are going for Freeport old cultural to skill 242.

From 197, which is the skill of our smith, to 242 we are expecting to a bit less than 1000 combines. So we are collecting items for at least 1000 combines.

1000 pelts, 2000 spiderling silks, 1000 tempers (2000 sea foam and 1000 saltwater seaweed), 1000 plains pebbles or rose quarts for imbue. I have estimated I need 1700 blocks of HQ Ore. Considering the resell value of the armor I guess that we need about 50kpp for ore and molds to do the skill run. You can farm HQ ore in a couple of locations, but we found that clearing SolA a couple of times netted 3 blocks of ore, it is just too slow. Actually farming for cash is faster and easier for us. YMMV.

To make the sea temper you have to be a brewer as well, which isn't a big deal. 135 skill is easy to reach. If you were going to skill on Qeynos old cultural (full plate) you have to have three components for the temper, griffennes blood which can often be purchased in Jaggedpine from vendors, rain water which you have to farm from Karana residing gnolls and essence of sunshine which is a pita to get unless you farm chromdracs in Skyfire.

      Good luck!

Shadowscream, once you learn how to farm it, will likely be the quickest and cheapest way over time to gain skill. However, unless you can regularly afford to spend 5 or more hours farming a no rent component to do the final run(or are willing to do the less effecient method of getting enough for a piece or 3 at a time), it will probably be less of a hassle overall to do the Freeport cultural.

First, you will not have to worry bout finding a 49+ enchanter(have I complained about this enough today?) like you would with the Qeynos armor(Though you will need an Imbuer to get past 215 or so, but heck, you can level a human druid to 29 in a week if you gun it and buy KEI's, or for that matter a human cleric to 29 that way in two and you will have all the imbue's you need, And by then your close to the good stuff anyway). Second You can get everything you need dropwise, in one zone. Yes, you will have to fish for the seaweed, but If you are the rightlevel you can do that while farming/mining/auctioning for the sea foams to do both things at once. And lastly, If you can do it, you can make an Immense profit while working on this cultural without having to try and bazzarr the successes by farming most of your HQ ore in SolA. Between the money you get from vendoring your product, and the money you get from vendoring all the finesteel and other crap you'll get from the goblins, you will have plenty left to buy more HQ ore from the vendors and more sea foam from players.

          stupid mugs...

I'm doing the Freeport route, and I have to say the biggest pain in the butt is the mugs of sea foam. I fish for seaweed inbetween killing seafuries, but those mug drops are realy rare...

Bit of confusion here - so forgive me if it's been asked before (quite sure it probably has - but I'm unable to find it posted anywhere - and I've spent countless hours looking)....

Under the smithing recipe section, (specifically "The Basics") it lists "medium quality chain jointing" as being used in Freeport Cultural. Yet - under the Cultural Section (Human - Freeport) it lists "chain jointing" as a component in the recipe for Field Plate/Imbued Field Plate.

So which is it - "medium quality chain jointing" or just plain old "chain jointing" for plate, or is it simply that the medium quality stuff is used in the Cultural chain recipe?

The medium quality rings are used to make the seafarer's Ringmail. Uses a "large brick of MQ ore".
The chain jointing is for Field Plate and uses a "large brick of ore".
Enchanted chain jointing is for Heraldic armor and uses a "large brick of HQ ore" that is enchanted by enchanters.

Freeport Cultural is the way to go for human smiths. Especially if they have alts that can make gathering components easier and quicker.

One of my Alts is a level 51 Wizzy. He goes to OOT, solos Furies for XP and fishes during med breaks. In addition, I have no problem getting mugs of sea foam at 5pp a piece doing OOC's. I skilled the Wizzy up in brewing and tailoring enough so that he can brew the tempers and make leather padding. (Yes, my Pally has the skills to do both as well).

This works out nicely due to a Wizard's ability to travel far and fast. But I digress.

FP cultural is by far the least expensive route to go. I started doing it at skill level 173. My logic being that 3 MQ blocks to make 3 sheets of folded MQ for the higher trivial Fine(Steel) Plate pieces costs around 60 plat. I can get 1 block of HQ for about 54 and work at just a slightly higher trivial for one sheet field plate bracers.

One word of warning to Pallys based in Freeport. In pursuit of your epic, you will become KoS in East and West Freeport, and unfortunately, the FP cultural forge is in the back of the Warrior guild in WFP. You won't be KoS to the Steel Warriors, but it's a major inconvenience to say the least having to avoid the Freeport Militia as you run to and from the forge.

I spent hours and hours readjusting my Freeport Militia faction in order to be able to move thru all FP zones in order to gather up ores, molds, etc.

The seaweed is the bane of my existence . Honestly, I can get mugs without even blinking (auction in OOT and make sure to farm the vendors on Sister Island and AC island). Without a doubt you'll find someone who saved a hundred or so and is more than happy to let them all go for 5 plat apiece. I've gotten 500 or so that way. The seaweed on the other hand sucks. Mightily. At 110 fishing, I get 5-6 an hour. Sometimes more, sometimes less. But still. That, and I blew a bunch of them because I had the wrong **** trivial written down for the temper, made me grumpy . On the other hand, it is the easiest thing known to man, with just about 0 danger for the fishing, and can be done if you have the time and patience.

The HQ ore used to be an issue, but I never have a problem finding it now.
