  • Barter for Inlays

I have a couple of Dusts of Discord and was thinking about going into "buyer" mode in the Barter/Bazaar zone to try to get some White Gold Inlays.

What do you smiths think would be a reasonable amount of cash to offer on top of the Dust for a finished Inlay?

IIRC the gold itself is just over 1k, so if I offered Dust plus 2k would that be reasonable? I guess it would also be an extra skill-up opportunity for someone heading towards 300.

Or is this all a waste of breath, because I'm unlikely to find a high level smith with an unused Dust of Discord anyway?

Let's assume that someone has a skill of 240 and a 5% mod item. They will have a 73% chance to succeed on the combine. I'm not sure what the cost of Dust of Discord on your server is, but let's assume its 9k (to make the math easy).

9k for the dust plus ~1k for the gold yields a cost of ~10k. 10,000/.73 = ~13,700. So the expected cost to create a White Gold Inlay would be just under 14,000. In your case, the dust + 2k doesn't come close to covering the expected cost of failures.

Can you ask for multiple items? 3 dusts for 2 inlays sounds closer to fair. Or dust + 4k if the value of the dust is near 9k on your server. Otherwise try dust + 1k + (value of dust)/3

You also have to consider the market for inlays. If they sell quickly for more than you are offering you probably won't get many takers.

    Good luck to you!

Very true, but for someone with over 260 and +5% then the success chance is 95%, so 10k/.95 = 10,526pp including failures.

So they make 500pp and save 400pp on a Sickle combine

But probably not enough profit for them to make it worth the hassle I guess. Well, maybe I will try something like Dust + 4k and see if anyone bothers.

Not that I have any augments to inlay!

You asked if you can ask for multiple items. Yes, but not in the sense you are thinking. You can ask for multiple items, but you buy on an item-by-item basis.

So.. you would say you would trade a certain amount of dust per inlay (ie: 1 dust per inlay, 2 dusts per inlay, etc.) rather than 2 dusts for 3 inlays or something like that.

Boleslav, where are you getting 73%? White gold inlays are trivial at 307 so, by my calculations, someone with 252 skill would have an 86% chance of success.

Miakiss, if you're on Sol Ro, send me (Mark Lonefeather) a tell; My modified smithing level is 260 right now. You supply the materials and I'll do the combines for free.

In general... I charge 500p to 1k to do a combine for someone I don't know.

I would never trade finished items for unfinished items. If you have unfinished items, then I'll do the combine for a fee... your items, your risk.

            Just my personal opinion.
