From what I gather, this is the human tier 3 component. I've read that this may drop off of some of the Stone-xxx mobs in OOW; can anyone confirm? Any other sources that people have found?

Forget the rarity of it for a minute and consider the difficulty of the zone the items drops in.
Pile of Gravel - Ruined City of Dranik
Small Brick of Yttrium - The Deep
Midnight Stone - Plane of Nightmare
Basilisk Tooth - ???
Let's ignore Basilisk Tooth for a minute, as no one seems to know anything about them.
Plane of Nightmare is easily grouped in the 50s and solo-farmed in the mid 60's. The same with The Deep. Midnight Stones are an uncommon drop, and Yttrium is a common drop off mobs that are plentiful in the zone.
Pile of Gravel seems to be a rare drop off of mobs in a zone that can be safely grouped in your upper 60s and solo farmed by a select few classes at 70 or a few other uber folks.
There is no balance between those components at all.
Now, back to Basilisk Tooth. Allakhazam does not have an entry for Basilisk Tooth. Lucy lists it, and also lists a submitter. This means that it dropped at least once on a production server. Magelo also lists it, showing the initial entry as July of 2004. So it has been in game for 8 months and no one knows anything about it. Must not be a common item, or even a rare item from at least an accessible mob.
Looks like there is work to do with these components.

True, but like many people, I can solo the Deep. No so with RCoD; not even close. I seriously hope they make some adjustments because this really is way out of balance. Please use the /feedback in-game if you agree that this is a problem.Huntmaster Caelith Dawnrunner 85 +2071

I arrived in the deep, a 70 pally, to find a 70 rogue allready soloing thought horrors. I've been trying to find piles of gravel for sale and had no luck. As its been a solo/tradeskill week, and I haven't taken an exp group to rcod, I've had no luck at all with gravel, yet easily walked away with 2 stacks of yittrium for friends, from finishing my master quest in the deep.
There appears to me to be a large discrepency in the difficulty of obtaining masterials- erudites use drops of mercuty for the expert level combines. Seeing as how that can be made by a rogue for less than 5pp, I think they will find it a lot easier to skill on cultural than say, Vah shir with bricks of black acrylia, or trolls with globes of fear.
At the same time, a bit of variety is nice- I'm disapointed how master component are pretty much gravel or yittrium, and all gm components are metalic drake scales. So trying to make a balenced, yet varried materials list won't be simplicity itself for the devs.

well, fwiw, i know a shammy who bots a cleric in rcod frequently (he got all his 66-68 spells for both toons that way, i think). that said, yes, rcod is a much more difficult zone than the deep.Originally posted by RavenswoodTrue, but like many people, I can solo the Deep. as for the variability in expert-level combines (noted by a later poster), that doesn't worry me as much since those recipes all trival out at 222, which is the same as EVB for smithing, so not a whole lot lost, imo.

I'm not asking for enough drops to make this a viable skill-up option; for starters I'd like to be able to make ONE piece. I have not personally, nor have I found ANYONE in-game that has been able to get their hands on a single Pile of Rocks one way or another. Granted, DoN is a bit more popular than OOW now, but I'm not sure I'll ever be able to get inot a OOW as easily as I used to.Huntmaster Caelith Dawnrunner 85 +2071

i've noticed a couple of piles of gravel in the bazaar in the last few days (they were exhorbitatnly prices, however... 30k and 45k on Aro... i'd wager from folks who notice the tradeskill tag, don't know what they're for/the value of them, don't see any others in bazaar, and assume it's for something extremely rare and drool-worthy).

gravel
please don't consider this confirmed, as it was a couple weeks ago, but I do seem to remember them dropping in a stillmoon instance mission from the stone guardian type mobs. I knew I should have asked for those drops, but I hadn't finished reading up on what people had discovered at that time ><Olav Trygvarson, Barbarian Warlord
