If you are talking about Hollowshade, my lvl 70 wiz still gets prox aggro there sometimes. And I know the shadows aggro at lvl 70.

A successful combine of any tradeskill item will add the recipe to the respective container list.

Proximity aggro occurs in Hollowshade and in Twilight, but at 66 the radius is very low (slightly higher in Twilight), and social assists do not occur.

I guess that would be the real question; at what level do social assists cease. I was 65 a year or so back when I last hunted for substances there; and no socials at that level. Will try a 46 alt as a test at some point if no one knows for certain.

The best way to hunt in Hollowshade is to enlist the help of a bard. I borrowed a friend's level 66 bard and ran around singing a low level AE slow. This will aggro most every mob in a small radius around the bard and makes for fast pulls. When I have about a third of the island, I bring them back to me (70 druid) for a one-shot AE. I find that any more than about a third of the island at a time ends up taking more time due to the higher number of stuns.

I found this method to be much faster because you don't need to target each mob and cast on it. You also don't have to run in to (and get stuck in) each of the little tents. God how I hate those things.

That being said, it's still tremendously tedious. If you can convince said friend to come along and actually do the pulls for you, it's much easier. Then again, I'm not much one for two boxing in the first place so your mileage may vary.

Not all combines are "learnable". Several combines, primarily quest-related, never show up on your list - EVBs were one example, but I think they did finally add that one.

Yeah, I know there are a few. Every combine I've ever done however, including EVB, has gone to the list. The vast majority do.

                substances

well the best way to farm em is during hollowshade moor war, whoever is in south islands drop the substances only, if they are in caves they wont drop em, so jus grab a train a slay em like that i get bout 3-5 per train i make, but the very very southpark where they have the named in the middle of 2 mobs infront u run up ladder to get the named that part of land rarely drops em, just stay on the islands and if owlbears control the south islands theyll drop substances, the ones in caves wont, then just switch up the ewar when your ready for the other substances to gather, hope this helps

                  Edit: added question

Thanks for the tip. Actually, I've been AOEing the bears and the wolves, and root rotting the shadows with my 62 druid. I'd gather up about 20 of them, drop them all in one cast, switch to Nolly for the looting. Swirling shadows are tradable, so that makes it a bit easier. No switching back and forth for the looting.

An update to my original post; it seems that the first time out I was having phenomenally bad luck, and half the time spent wasn't in the marshlands (southern part of zones where islands are). As was reported, the drop rate seems to be a lot better there. Last night I spent about about 4.5 hours farming and got about 120 of each.

                        Trogdor,

Find a spot where you cant move forward (I usually pick under a low hut) and then put your back to it and you will notice a significant decrease in interrupts. Out of curiosity though, how are you being hit if the bard should have their attention?

As far as the Shades go I load up Earth Shiver and Upheaval then pull the entire island. Find a rock to put my back to and unload. Most are killed with the initial Earth Shiver while the rest usually die from the Upheaval. Sometimes a few may survive, so a recast of Earth Shiver when it repops may be needed. Its just sort of strange though that half the island repops in 20 minutes, while the other half pops in 30.

It's the bard that gets stunned not me. It gets really annoying doing the start-stop jerky running thing with 50 green mobs on your tail.

As for me, I never get aggro because one round of AEs kills the entire train dead.

I've made a pretty tidy sum selling ebon and radiant crystals on my server so I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and do mistletoe cutting sickles anyway.

For hollowshade war i average about a stack of dros per pull. i get about 90% of the mobs on the lower islands and by the time i finish looting the mobs have poped back up again.

I use a 70th level enchanter , who is my tradekiller to pull with either casting a lower level tash or swinging a fast weapon to aggro single mobs and using two ae stuns and hte two ae PB mezzes to give my self some room and to aggro groups of mobs.

I have heard using a 51st level bard to pull is best as all the mobs will aggro due to low level of the bard.

For swirling shadows, try going to Madiens Eye and hunting near the UP entrance. Discovered this during the master's part of the new DON armor tasks. Drop rate is great there.

Define "great" please. Which mobs are you hunting near the UP entrance? What is the respawn rate like? How many shadows can you collect in 1 hour?

                                Cheers,
