Hit 300 in smithing about 5 minutes ago, and am plesently suprised to see that when you equip your trophy and open a forge the modified skill is at 315. So I am very interested to see someone with a 15% skill mod item what there modified skill is. Is there a cap does anyone know or has seen? I always thought when it was at 250 and your modified skill was 252 it seemed stupid, maybe sony has finally gotten something right.

the new title for 300 in a skill is Master.

The reason the old cap was 252 is because that was the max value the variable could hold (allowing a few bits for related data). The variable type that was used could hold 256 values. To increase the level cap they either added a bit to that variable, meaning it could hold 512 values, or they changed it to something altogether different, meaning it may be able to hold even more. But even if it can only hold 512 values, we won't see that hard cap anymore, unless SoE imposes an artificial one.

My guess is that a person with a 15% mod will see a skill of 345. If this is the case it may finally lead to some interesting skill mods in the future, now that they would be of worth to a person who is maxxed to the soft cap.

              my skill-up route

I made mistletoe cutting sickles until i hit 300. I would guess I attempted around 1100 of them or so. It's really hard to say, once i heard that the new cap was going up I imidiatly started imbuing emeralds, and had over 5000 done 2 days before DoN went live. I figured it would be plenty with many to spare to start tailoring. I would have wrote it down like others but to be honest i really didn't care since overall i needed to max them all.
