Can anybody tell me where they hunt for swirling shadows needed to make the shadow scream armor? I used to hunt for it in shadeweavers thicket, but seems they have changed the zone and the lesser shades don't seem as common as before.

I tried hunting the shadows in Twilight seas, but theren't very many of them, and they seem pretty slow to respawn.

I also tried the XI Vius and other robed type mobs in Maidens Eye, but they were a lot harder to kill and didn't seem to drop the swirling shadows as often.

    Thanks

The Shadow Island in Twilight Sea is pretty-much the primary location to farm Swirling Shadows... if you can fight them, of course. I don't recommend it for a melee-class or Cleric under level 60-ish, or anyone under level 45-ish.

Even as over-equipped as my Paladin is, they can be very tough to fight. Levitation is almost a requirement for safe pulling as well.

The robed guys in mons letalis drop them. Spire spirits.

Don't forget shadeweaver's thicket if the other camps happen to be taken.

There are no super fast gathering spots for swirling shadows. I own 600 of them and have tried all the spots. If you get bored in twilight sea waiting for shadows to repop there's always the elementals.

I found the best way to farm them is to make deep runs into Akheva and AE the everliving heck out of anything that will follow your puller back. Old guild AE cleared for raids in Akheva, and there was always a decent quantity of cash loot and tradeskill drops to be had. I've never tried, but I'd assume you can AE the robed guys in Maiden's, since they drop the shadows too.

Persoally, I got bored of farming, and flat offered low levels 10p per shadow, and 2p per silk. I got so many of both that I still have them spread all over mules.

I have been using a combination of two methods to get swirling shadows as a 56 warrior.

          1) Although I can tank the shadows in Twilight Sea, I usually get so many adds when I first try to break the island that I get swarmed and have to zone. I have found, however, that bringing a few lower level friends (mid 40s), especially a healer and cc, we can own the island. I offer them all the other drops except the shadows, and they get xp to boot. They do respawn slowly, but we've taken the tactic of farming the elementals across the way for windstones and essence of wind for combine acrylia temper until the shades repop. Have been able to get 50-60 shadows per hour this way

          2) I created a low-level ranger to farm in Shadeweavers. The lesser shades aren't that uncommon, just spread out. With track they are easy to find. Unfortunately, they did seem to nerf the drop rates on lesser shades, and now that Shadeweavers is the new hotzone, it's getting difficult to farm there.

Zone into shadeweavers and head due north till you hit the north end of the zone. Kill everything you can find around there. Lesser Shades will spawn amongst them.

I've fought these guys a lot for faction. I've never seen Swirling Shadows drop. I've seen Shadow Essence (same icon) from them fairly often. Has something changed, or is this just a misunderstanding?

AFAIK, the only sources for Swirling Shadows are:
              1) Shadeweaver's Thicket
              2) Twilight Sea
              3) Maiden's Eye (off of some of the Xi mobs...not sure which offhand.)

Just remember to hunt down all the Skeletal Hunters you see as well. If someone has hunted shades only before you arrive you might have to go after the hunters wandering in the zone first before settling down to fight the shades and hunters at the spawn area.

Twilight sea is best spot to farm swirling shadows I have found. If you clear the island or have to heal up, you can move to the elemental island nearby and start killing the air elemental for essence of wind, which is the slow part of acrylia plate armor. This is one of the alternative skilling path for smithing.
