  • Skillu[ rate 222+

After taking a very long break from smithing, I have decided to come back to finish it. Been trying to finish alot of half finished things lately actually.

Anyway, I am currently at Skill 222 and I'm missing the Bert flag for Aid Grimel. So, I have been farming shadowscream and DE cultural armor and I was wondering how many combines, approximately, I could expect per skillup.

So far I have farmed enough for ~100 shadowscream and ~20 Cultural.

I don't know if this will continue (I sure hope it does), but I got 7 skillups (223-229) of of 96 shadowscream gloves combines last night, just over 12 combines per skillup. While doing EVBs I was getting about 25-30 combines per skillup. This is at lvl 62 with 265 INT.

In the 222+ range, I averaged about 20 attempts per skillup. Sometimes I was lucky and had 3 skills in 20 attempts, sometimes I had bad luck and had none in 60; it all averaged out to about 1 skillup per 20 attempts.

The shadowscream bracer seems to have a higher chance than normal to get you a skillup (don't ask me why). Now I've moved onto the boots the skillup rate has gone back to 1/20.

One thing I hate about shadowscream is the stacking of Humming Orbs.

Last night, collected enough for another 60 combines and got 1 skill up point, not only do you have to farm greens for hours, you have to allocate much needed bag space to carrying all the ingrediants, and then a 1 in 60 success rate just sucks.

This took me from 227 to 228, I have Smithing Mastery 3 and Salvage 3, didn't fail a single combine and made neck till skill up, followed by boots.

If they are going to punish us so badly, they can at least make the Humming Orbs stack so that I can farm these and get a good stash before moving on to the Swirling Shadows.

I'm beginning to believe that sticking to making magnetic armour is a more viable solution, not failing any of the combines, and at least it's getting me experience while farming (and the stuff sells).

I did another 92 shadowscream gauntlets last night and got 5 more skillups. Seems that just over 1 skillup per stack will be what I get.

              skill ups

On shadowscream, I prolly averaged 1 skill-up in 20 combines. It seemed to be almost 2 in 20, but I had a few runs where I'd go 60-80 combines without an increase

Found Someone in the Bazaar selling Essence of shadow, rather cheap. Up to 80 tempers now. =)

Now to sucker, /cough, convice some friends to enchant some metal.

Took my chanter up to 232 on the Pale Velium Inlaid Cestus. Not quite as cheap as farming the materials for SS would have been, but certinly easier as I found both the aligned ore and the raw pale nihilite in the bazaar, and was able to both practice my own refining as well as work on my smithing.

If you've access to a chanter, you might consider doing this. Just don't pay more than 100 plat per ore and per nihilite; the velium's the big expense here.

Well had the day off and decided to head for Hallowshade Moor. Farmed and farmed. I hate so Shadowscream now. And have more farming to go. Friend said though he may know of a raid I coud get on for a Bert. flag.

I did the same. Seemed like I made the money back from the velium cost by selling them back to the vendor. I did some Misletoe cutting sickles after that and got to 236. These are gradually selling in the bazaar. Since then I've use whatever magnetic pieces me or a friend loots and actually got a couple of skill ups on white gold inlays. Sitting at 238 at the moment and have no plans to actively work on skilling up past 240.

The following was my number of combines/skillpoint. I'm a 295 wis druid of Tunare btw, which helps explain my choice of sickles. Also Meldstones were selling rather cheaply (50p-100p each) when I reached 240, so I bought up all I could afford and did muramite sheets instead of farming more tae ew blood/shadowSCREAM. Of course, after I'd bought out all the current stock, people restocked with higher prices (300p-500p each), so back I went to tae ew and shadowscream.
                        I hope this helps.

Iblan - why the need to stack humming orbs? substances stack, and so do swirling shadows. Say, 2 stacks each of wailing, screaming, metal rings, and 4 stacks of SS - one full backpack. Buy 10 molds from vendor, click forge, humming orbs and final armor are favorites - click 10 orbs, then click 10 armors, return to vendor ro sell armor/buy new molds and repeat. Fairly easy.

I think you're spelling it wrong. It's "mistletoe cutting sickle".
