  • Magnetic recipe, do I have this right?

Sorry, its been a long time since I smithed!
It seems to me that you need, eg, 2 charged magnetic bracers to make a magnetic bracer, is this correct? One to make the bolt, one for the final combine?

This is a little strange, a circular recipe. Or can you buy any of these components?
    Thanks,

The magnetic armors are a little strange, in that the broken pieces are or make virtually all of the ingredients (other than the copper sheets).

Start by breaking down some "broken" magnetized armors into magnetic bricks.
With these bricks, you need to make some bolts (1 brick -> 6 bolts) and patch plates (1 brick -> 1 sheet).
You then take one of those "broken" magnetized armor pieces, a bolt, and a variable number of patch plates and copper sheets, to make the ("fixed") magnetic armor.
You can then take the magnetic armor and combine it with 1-4 lightning cores (separate drop) to make it a Charged Magnetic armor.

You can break down the (fixed) Magnetic armors to make magnetic bricks, but doubt that will happen frequenty since you have to use up bricks to make the magnetic armor in the first place. Considering the rarity of lightning cores, I really doubt anyone will be breaking down Charged Magnetic armors for parts any time soon.

    So basically the three stages:
Magnetized = broken, no stats. Good for bricks or as ingredient to make repaired armors
Magnetic = repaired, with stats. Attunable, can be used to make Charged or for bricks.
Charged Magnetic = attunable with improved stats. Unknown if there are other uses.

To make a Magnetic Bracer, you would need one magnetic brick (to make the bolts) and one cracked magnetized bracer. You could get that magnetic brick from breaking down any other peice, including another cracked magnetized bracer. You would have 5 bolts left over though, so the combine really takes more like "1/6 magnetic bricks" than a straight 1 brick.

well, I can see breaking down a completed piece to bricks, if you outgrew it. aka, instead of destroying that no drop BP, you could break it down to bricks to be used for someone else.

Fantastic explanation! Thanks for putting it into an easy to understand format. I was trying to figure this out last night which I finally did but it took me a half hour of looking stuff up here and on alla to get it. And then I still don't think I could have explained it to anyone. Now it all makes sense.

Youll need a decent stockpile of damaged items before you start.

Check out what items you have and look up the finished products for each item. Break down what you dont want. Use those for the bolts/patch plates.

I wish there were more items that were no-drop that you could actually DO something with, like break them down into usable materials.

When i finally replace my Acrylia Handled Broadsword, id LOVE to be able to attempt some smithing combine or do some quest to turn it into a 'Serpents Bite' Augment that I could put on another weapon. 100 point *unresistable* lifetap is a WONDERFUL thing and I hate to lose it.

I've been breaking down belts and collars mostly because they make pretty crappy armor. I buy belts and collars for 1k-2k or so and break those down and make armor with the good pieces.

The non-visible slots (collar, belt, pauldrons, all of which yield "worn magnetic <piece>" war/rog/mnk/ber when fixed) make nice fodder to break down, as few people are interested in the result. The bracers, boots, and gauntlets also seem decent breakdown fodder, at least with Tunare's economy (price of finished piece ~= cost, if all components bazaar bought; plus, they have comparatively weaker stats for their slots than the bp/leg/arms/helm).

I just keep track of how many bricks a particular piece breaks down into...

When a Magnetized piece of armour is selling for a price that is at or below a certain threshold (~2k per brick), then I grab it for "supplies".

Some pieces I won't do this on (like the Helm... if I see one for 5k, I'm buying it and probably making the Helm instead of breaking it down) unless I'm really short on supplies.

Yep, I buy at ~1k per brick and will only make BPs, Legs and Helms. But I am also waiting out a group of low sellers who will eventually get tired of scrimping and slaving in the vain hopes that a few failures won't destroy their profit margins. I will let the RNG do it's nasty work and then start selling at my prices again.
