  • Vale Sewing Kits a good direction to go in?

    Greetings everyone,

For the reason that I like to do my own combines when making something and would rather not purchase the items from the Bazaar, I am required to get my Smithing to 220+ to make Ethereal Metal Rings. Being as I'm a Halfling Thief, I seem to think that making Vale Sewing Kits might be an easier way to get skillups than some of the other directions I was looking at going in.

A couple of questions I have before I make the commitement on doing this. My current Smithing is 108 and Vale Sewing Kits trivial at 162. Is this a good direction I would want to try or should I try something else? As well, once I trivial the Sewing Kits, provided I do them, what would be a good suggestion to continue after that? If there are any "good suggestions" to use

Qaelin Hailstorm tells you, 'That'll be 6 platinum 1 gold 8 silver 4 copper for the Small Brick of Steel.'
Qaelin Hailstorm tells you, 'I'll give you 1 platinum 9 gold 5 copper per Steel Arrowheads'

Recipe for Steel Arrowheads is: file, mark of karana, small brick of steel, water flask

Trivial is 188, yield is 2. The advantage to this recipe is that you don't need a top inventory slot for the final product unless you are planning on just letting the Vale Sewing Kit drop to the ground.

Qaelin Hailstorm is in Surefall Glade.

    You say, 'Hail, Qaelin Hailstorm'
Qaelin Hailstorm says 'Welcome to Surefall Glade. I have the great honor of bestowing these small but powerful Marks of Karana to those who follow him. With it they can use fletching to create bows and arrows. If you [need a mark] and are a true follower of Karana, I will give you all that you need. There is no fear of running out.'
You say, 'I need a mark'
Qaelin Hailstorm says 'Here you go, if you need another please let me know.'

All the work can be done in Surefall Glade. Bring plenty of plat to buy the ingredients as there is no bank there.

I'd personally recommend the vale sewing kits. I used them. But I should warn you that the closest place to buy the HQ ore is in PoK, but the forge you have to use is in RV. Bit of a pain with the running back and forth. But first, I'd definitely finish up banded until the chest piece trivials at 115.

Before you decide on anything though, you really should consult: "The Economical Smith." Great guide.

Link to it from the Learn a skill page of the EQ Traders Corner main page:

Oh. Yea! What Jawn said assuming you follow Karana. Being a rogue though, I just kinda assumed you went with the more mischievious choice of Haflings.

I follow Rallos Zek, so the Karana fletching wasn't a choice for me. (If it was even available when I started smithing. Can't remember.)

Are you doing smithing for the fact that you want to do smithing or are you just trying to get some rings?

Because a LOT of people use rings for skillups for the 210-212 run, so they'd be easy enough. MUCH cheaper/easier to buy them from someone else than skill up to make them yourself.

On the other hand, if you want to be doing smithing, more power to ya.. good luck

I probably should have mentioned that I like to do my own Farming of components along with making my own pieces, so making the HQ Bits won't be much of a problem. Hell it took me about 14 Months of mostly on and a little bit of off farming to GM Tailoring when my Tailoring was at 115 and I made the commitment to get myself to 250

There are quite a number of places to run around that are usually empty that I can beat up on mobs galore and get FS to drop. The quick repop time will allow me to stay busy killing and collecting so I can make the HQ Pieces.

I have alot of patience when it comes to farming. I lived in Dawnshroud Peaks and Tenebrous Mountains for months on end when I was doing Acrylia Studded and Acrylia Reinforced Armor for Tailoring.

Yes I could go into the Bazaar and buy just about anything I need (I have just over 60k PP in the bank) but I role play my character that he won't buy anything from other players. As I tell others when they ask me why I won't do this, I tell them... "I'm the Thief, not them"

Thanks for the support and I'll read up on this guide

I used the kits for skilling, just make sure you have as much open room in your bags as you can. Needle Mold & Thimble Mold being non-stackable take up some room quick. I hope you plan on dropping the kits after you make them, or you will be in for a very lengthy skill run running to the vendor to sell them or Tribute. I honestly can't remember if they would even buy them and this was well before the Tribute system, so I don't know what they are worth there.

I could only find the molds in Misty - lots and lots of running. Just did a search and found they are indeed sold in RV, oh the things you learn only AFTER you are done with them.

              Good luck in your run.

                sewing kits

They're a good route. I used both kits and arrowheads, and farmed the HQ ore myself in SolA. Compared to the cost of leather padding for the fine steel... a definite advantage.
