  • 188 to 227

I recently raised my smithing skill. I wanted to share my experiences.

I had been collecting LDoN temper components for some time before attempting skill ups. I had about 160 (all acquired free from doing LDoNs). I only went from 188 to 193 - a bit disappointing. I did sell some of my finished product in the bazaar. Cost from 188 to 193 was about break even considering the items I sold.

I went from 193 to 210 with EVBs. I farmed all my own velium in Velks. Considering the rare drops I got in Velks and sold in the bazaar and the gems I sold, I increased my bank account considerably skilling up. I also dinged a couple of AAs while farming here too. The exp isn't good but one does get exp.

I used the "freebie" ethereal rings skill ups from 210-212. I have sold about a stack of the rings in the bazaar for 115pp a piece. This was another positive plat skill up as well. I already had all the ethereal bricks I needed from exping in the planes.

I went from 212 to 220 with EVBs again. I increased my bank account again by selling the drops from velks while farming for velium. I used about 700 small pieces of velium to go from 193 to 210 and 212 to 220. I was pretty happy with the result. My int is 355 BTW.

I went from 220 to 225 (just haven't finished up at 227 yet) doing the first part of the Aid Grimel quest itself - cleaning the breastplate with the acid wash. It took me 60 acid wash (60 attempts) to get the 5 skill ups. I can't believe how easy it was. The acid wash is celestial essence (x3) and a jar of acid. Just mix up a bunch of acid wash - bind by Aid Grimel - make a hotkey to request the BP - run to a forge - make the combine - gate back - rinse repeat. Really only viable for casters who can gate.

Overall it has been fairly easy to go from 188 to 225. I thought the fine plate was a lot more tedious and difficult.

I know this is more of a tactical question but what did you kill and HOW most importantly to net so much velium dropping for you. Also, how long did it take you to gather all that velium? Thanks in advance and congrats on your skilling up.

Up on the very top platform there are a high number of see through spiders (the type that drop velium) sitting up there will not only give you a bit of exp, not fantastic but dinged two AAs (at level 65) farming Velium for over 12ish hours.
This camp also gives access to multiple nameds, perhaps 4-5 in total, drops such as SCHW, Silver Chitin Wristband and more.

This was a fantastic camp and one of the few places I'm happy to camp for tradeskill bits, using my ranger instead of enchanter I could keep 3 or so platforms clear and thus gain a lot of velium and gems.

I camped the frenzy camp in Velks. I kept everything from the crystal eyes camp and above clear. I would routinely get several nameds to pop in a couple of hours or so. I would only camp this place for around 2 hours or so - that was enough time to fill up every bit of room I had on me.

I would have about 5 ten slot backpacks full of velium and the remainder of my room would be crystalline silk and gems and named drops. I would normally come away with around 100 small pieces (after I broke down the bricks) for around 2 hours.

Camping Velks is not mind-numbingly boring. It can be interesting. I get exp and sellable items so it's not too bad.

I also went back behind the kobolds where the ice gargoyle and golem type mobs are. They are more of a challenge as it is difficult to pull just one - normally get two per pull and they summon. I have noticed that they drop more velium thanthe spiders though. When the frenzy was camped I would head back here. Makes for a challenging solo camp and the velium seems to drop better back there as well.

I know there are people that go to CC for velium but I think this is much better if you can do this camp for Velium.

Yes thank you very much. I had started on Othmir for their fur and scored a couple of gems so I know how much gems would come in handy while farming Velium in Velks so it SHOULD make up for the cost of the tempers to make EVBs. I'll defintely try the spiders since summoning mobs and myself (druid) dont really mix.
