Just imagine- in an expansion or two they may raise the tradeskill cap to 300 or 350.

What would be the point? If they really want to fix tradeskill trivials, they should just re-trivialize everything, just like the Fine Plate Armor fix a while back. What would be the reasoning of having to rewrite the entire tradeskills system for more points?

Because at the rate we're going we will need higher trivials and the already high trivials are too high for it to be feasible to make better stuff at higher trivials. We're making items now that are like 30-50% chance of success if the next couple expansions bring out something with a trivial of 400+ what are we going to do? It would be pointless (what 5% chance to combine) and they can do so much more with higher points then they can by just lowering everysingle trivial down to bring it within balance.

I have a feeling skill caps will be raised semi-soon - with levels getting higher and the lock on skillups in other areas (not just tradeskills) hitting around 50-60 depending on the skill, I think they'll start upping it within the next couple expansions.

Disclaimer: I have seen NO evidence, postings, etc that would even lend the slightest bit of credence to my theory, it's just my personal guess based on the current state of the game.

It'll get changed when it needs to be changed for combat. Tradeskills will just be a side effect.

My 2 bucks (Raised from 2 cents for inflation), is that we'll see skill cap raises right around the time we see Crafting Masteries get implemented.
A dev at the last fan faire said he liked the idea of making masteries like JCM.

            Nothing concrete ever mentioned though.

If they keep expanding the game upwards, and it's a big if whether they'll expand it that far, I believe it will become a matter of time when they'll be forced to look into the possibility of rewriting the skills to go further. Not because of tradeskills but because of combat related issues. The choices will be to keep adding more and more effects to items so to take an example the atk values can increase and melees have a realistic chance of hitting a mob. Or they have to keep adding more and more AA to give these effects and raise caps on worn effects. And keep adding more and more AC to items. If in EQ's far future the level cap goes up to say 90th lvl you'd have to have such unbelievable items. Problem is if you rely on more AA to make fighting at the ultra high levels possible then you're furthering the gap between casual and hardcore player and making the combat AA a practical requirement for those higher level melees who want to be able to stay alive. If you rely on the items to do it it has in the past tended to lead to the non-raiders vs raider gap, which is equally great, if not greater. Skills on the other hand anyone can get and anyone can raise fairly naturally while leveling.

Wow - Tormax would be green or LB. As would a lot of NTOV, Tier-1 PoP and well....

Very little in fact would be DB. Can you imagine what an even con MOB would be hitting for?

They'd make Pookas look like Orc Pawns.

A friend told me that on Test server, the tradeskill caps have been raised. Since I don't play (much less tradeskill) on Test, I'm not able to verify this myself. Anyone have any info?

Humm no mention of that on EQ live either under the Testing area or under tradeskills area. Smells like BS to me, unless they were talking about the Reserch etc. bug that unlocked 201-250.

This thought had occured to me too. I finally got smithing to 240 and saw my first hammer drop from XTC in the same week. I didn't roll for it because the mod is useless to me now. I thought about it though! What if they raise the skill cap??? /shrug

Move the bar too far away and I'm likely to just quit. =D

Likewise. No point in continuing if the skill cap, aka mastery of the tradeskill, becomes unattainable and impossible to achieve. In that case, better to put the energy on something that might actually happen.
