Since it's a quest recipe, it's listed with the appropriate quests. But people do use it to skill up.

There are some major problems with it: it's a total money sink and you can't memorize the recipe because it's a quest recipe and not a traditional tradeskilling recipe -- probably because the results are lore.

Not bad if you can farm velium, but since the results are both nodrop and lore, just flush that plat down the drain.

When I was trying to hit 220, I sunk alot of money into these when there were no LDoN temper ingredients available and I was impatient. I noticed that my skill up rate on these was terrible (and yes I was destroying the bits). I then switched off to Velium Cestus and had much better luck. Velium Cestus was even more economical for me (as a chanter) than the GoD armor.

Check the recipe, and check to be sure you have the correct ingredients:

              - Spell: Enchant Velium (1)
              - Coldain Velium Temper (1)
              - Small Piece of Velium (2) UNSTACKED

NB: you need the actual spell scroll, you do not cast the spell to enchant the small pieces of velium.

Just for info, I think I did about 200 combines of evb's to get me from 205-220 smithing. I farmed all the velium myself from CC (about 4 full loads althogether). So total cost was for 200 x coldain velium temper's and 200 x spell: enchant velium, about 4k altogether.

Just curious as to what GoD armor you are reffering to. I am under the believe there are no GoD armors available outside Qvic+ mold armors.

                        can confirm this works.

worked great for me. i went LDoN temper stuff till 210, then ethreal sheets to 212 (had a ton i had been saving in the bank, got the freebee skill up on first one too). then EvB to 221 so far. farmed most of the velium myself so this was a VERY econamical way to go. did this yesterday 9-2-2004.

seemed to me the combines was one skill up per 20 combines. i destroyed the bits after every try.

going to now go use the info i gained on the acid wash, thats great idea!!! i am ready for the final combine on the smithing part of the quest, but was scared to try it at 221 skill. too hard to get the nightmare mefit blood.

                        thank you for the info!!!

I have done the smithing for two characters lately, one from 1-222 and the other from 165-222, and I'll have to say that the enchanted velium bits is alot faster/easier than the LDON armor (I did LDON armors on the first character, until 200something, dont remember excactly), with the low resale value on LDON armors (does have some tribute value though, I tributed all I made) and the cost of the tempers + other components, buying/farming velium and making the bits were alot easier, and not more expensive either. (of course if you were very patient/had lots of room on your trader you might sell some of the LDON armor..)

By buying small/large bricks/blocks of velium in bazaar (I generally bought all below 50pp ) and turning them into the stackable velium pieces I had a cost of approximately 60 platinum per combine, which for me seems cheap considering that the LDON tempers sell for 80-100pp in bazaar.
You might say "dont buy the tempers, just collect the items from your LDON adventures" ..well, you can still collect those, make tempers and SELL those..then skill up on velium bits, and you'll come out far cheaper.

On the second character (a friends chanter) I did fine plate until it trivialed, then I purchased/made approximately 60 stacks of velium, and that was enough to run to 222.

Yes its abit boring to do the combines manually...but heck, its only a few hours of clicking..and people managed it in the past before the new UI.

                            A tip

These are a good recipe if you have lots of cash to burn and aren't interested in making your money back.

But I just wanted to give a quick tip, you don't need to destroy the bits every time. Just leave one in your inventory and you will never get another one because it is lore, saves tons of time clicking, and you don't have to worry about your inventory filling up.

Sometimes it's just one of those things you don't think about. I think I went through a stack or two of destroying each and every one until I thought to myself, hey I don't need to do destroy each of these. It went much more quickly from there.

I am having a terrible time with these

Im 40-50 combines to a success. I had great luck with the LDON stuff though. I guess it evens out.

Hey I may be insane here but, would it be possible that use dwarves do better with skill ups on armor?

                              Thanks
