  • Getting swirling shadows: Easy

    Hi,

i was farming for swirling shadows in Shadeweavers thicket, but i found the droprate here sucks and there is a much easier way:
Get a port to Twilight sea, go to the little island southeast in the zone and kill the shadows there. You will find drops much more frequent, most that drop a swirling shadow have two of them. They have about 1500-2000 hp, and hit for less than 60.
Personally, im a level 65 cleric so i just pull a big train and PBAE them all, which takes 3 casts. Then i loot, sell the loot at the nearby inn, and waiting for the repop. You can make some decent pp from this while you get your shadows.
(note: i have 5856 hp selfbuffed, my defensive aa's and bulwark of vie on when i do this. They can still get me killed before i succeed in channeling the last PBAE. They didn't but they could have. So dont get careless just because they are green)

I tried to melee a Greater Shadow there once, just to see how doable it was. This was a while back, so my gear, AA's and all were less than they are now; but back then, that critter was life-tapping me like nuts. Eventually I had to back off to heal myself at which point the critter was full health again due to the frequent life taps.

I haven't gone back there since (and don't need to anymore, either ).

That's a good way to do it, IF you're a high level caster. Some of us are melee characters, though, and we're stuck in Shadeweaver's.

        Even easier

Go back to shadeweavers. Make your way to the North west corner killing any skellies/nuisances that you can. Most are part of the spawn cycle. There are about 8 spawn spots but they are all centralized in that corner (just outside the tunnel that has underbulk type mobs). If you can keep killing them, they will stay in that corner. If you have a duo, one person stay killing at corner while other person scouts rest of zone to complete kills. One night in about 2 hours I came home with about 5 stacks of them. Hope that helps.

I dual box a wizard and a cleric. And even with them, I usually do the island in Twilight Sea 1/3 at a time. All those life taps add up quick. I also set up on a nearby island and levitate the cleric. She pulls a bunch and brings them back (don't stop moving!), I nuke my big PBAOE, then smaller one, while they eating my rune up, she can then use her PBAOE, which usually means they dead. (Unless one is a named.) Named happen quite frequently there.

Is it possible to pull one or 2 at a time in Twilight. I am a necro which means I only kill one or two at a time (no AOE here).

Aalar, which level are you? As a 65 necro I Usually just sic my pet on a Shadow and kill it pretty quick. I would advise you to have root up as well as be ready to FD.
Those robed little gits managed to kill me off when 3 of them caught me unprepared one time. AND they were all green, so they can be quite nasty.

Generally though I have quite an easy time killing off the island and wait for repops.

Camping these as a cleric isn't so bad with an extended range item, or with SoE. The shades are undead, so DoTing them and then Spooking the Dead works nicely. Just make sure you pull them back far enough to allow you to kill them off the shade island. I also camp them with my 65 monk, but I can see how this island can be pretty trivial for anyone at that level. At lower levels, I'd very much recommend fear kiting or root-DoTing these -- most classes can pull one of these off.

They do not seem to be social. Several times, I pulled one, it walked right over another coming for me, but the second one didn't aggro on me.

When farming swirling shadows in Shadeweaver's I used to keep all the skellies clear (tracking druid). Drop rates were not particularly good.

Twilight Sea drops are much better-- at least double. As a 65 druid, I can keep the island clear by single nuking the shades.

I am a 65 necro. Did not know they were undead. I have not started farming them as of yet. It will be easy to kill them as undead - I have the undead mez & slow spell. Will be easy.

                          Thanks,

I farm all my swirling shadows in Twilight, and I've found it to be very easy. I'm a 65 shaman, and I just run around with dog-dog, grab a few shades, and melee them down; I don't have to slow them and I don't need to heal myself unless I've got more than four on me at once. Even then I just throw a Quiesence on myself once they're dead and call it good.

If you clear the island fast enough, you do have to wait for respawn, but the drop rate is good and you don't have to wander around killing trash spawns all over the place like in Shadeweavers. Plus, the neighboring island has tons of elementals that drop essence of wind, oxides, and other tradeskills stuff, so you can pop over there and farm while waiting for the shades to respawn.

Heh, for grins I tried this and it worked fairly well. As 65 bard I loaded up rune, and 3 AE dmg songs and rounded up the lot and killed them via melee/AE dot. Took me to ~50% (3300hp unbuffed).
