Aid Grimmel Smithing

Has anyone used the 'Cleaning the Breastplate part of Aid Grimmel' method to skill up to 227 (or 228 i dont remember)?

I did 20 attempts last night that got me 1 skillup (from 221 to 222)

I just wanted to hear from anyone who has done this and what sort of numbers of attempts would i be dealing with....

I think someone did post that they used this to skillup.

Basically they had a cleric alt/friend and bound at the gnome. Then died and dragged the corpse to the forge. They proceeded to get the quest from gnome then get rezzed at the forge...do combine/med a sec and then gate back to gnome and repeat.

Not sure how many combines they did but it didnt seem that bad from what I remember.

Yeah, its a lot easier for me as a druid. I am bound beside Aid Grimmel. I can keep him targeted the whole time...

Hotkey the text to get Dirty BP
Port to POK
Short run to Forge
Do combine, destroy cleaned bp
Gate
Hotkey the text... etc.

Takes a while to get through a stack of attempts, so i wondered how many i was going to need to do. (just a rough figure)

Did this 220-226, finally gave up after about 4 more stacks of acid wash and no 227. Think I went through a total of about 12 stacks of wash , although it seems longer since you're only doing one at a time... :P

I did this - it's a bit painful running around, but it's easier than Shadowscream.

Did the same as the above druid poster, except I never destroyed the BP - new one just poofs, so big deal.

I forgot about the Poof. For some reason i thought that Aid Grimmel wouldnt give you another if you had the cleaned bp on you....

The really annoying thing is i dont 'really' have to do it. I am currently 222 and have 15% mod item which makes me effectivly maxed. But i do want to be 1750 club eventually, so i guess i better keep on working at it.

If you can gate and got a lvl 55+ mage bot(or just a mage friend who doesn't mind killing some time), it is real easy. Bind by a forge and put a mage near Grimel. Then just gate, combine, CotH, ask for another.

My smithing is raw 221, and this Monday I finally got Carprin key - so next Bertox raid I'll hopefully get that flag. I totally don't want to farm Shadowscream until I hit 227. For now, I am working my pottery and tailoring...

As a paladin it's very time consuming. I just did the one combine for the quest. It did take me 3 tries on the smithing combine for the JC part though. But I got a skill up off the success

I used the BP as a skillup until 227... with levi on you can levi over the wall and drop down to the forge. Took around 1.5 stacks per skillup... but sure beats the alternatives.

I'm at 238 smithing w/ everything else max'd out =)

Sad to say I might not make 1750... I've almost GM'd a tinker in the same amount of time and effort that has taken me to gain a couple smithing points ;/

Went back and looked at what I averaged, and it was about 20 per skill up.

Got the Bertox flag over the weekend (what a really enjoyable Open raid) and decided to make my stab at cleaning breastplates for my next 5 points of Smithing skill. Made 8 stacks of Acid Wash because a) my Wis is just 330 and b) I seem to always be in the middle as far as luck with skillups.

After 76 attempts, received my 5th skillup to 227 and now bound in HSM mass killing wolves and owlbears for the remaining points (personal record of 35 mobs at once atm ;o)

BTW, the keep the first, let lore take care of the rest plan works perfectly and saves a clicky step. I was bound right at Grimel and as long as you are close, a general say message without him targetted will stilll give the breastplate. Succor to PoT stone and FoE to smith building...took me about 1 minute total per attempt, most of which was succor zoning time. The recipe CANNOT be learned (but at least the Acid Wash can be...)

I just did this aid grimel skill last night

I did enchanted velium bits to 222
then I did this aid grimel recipe
from 222-227.

It took a little under 80 combines
for the skill ups. I had 355 wis the
entire time.

It took about 1 1/2 min per combine.

What I did to speed things up
was this.

1) have SoW up
2) Bind next to aid grimel
3) Have lev on me
4) set up hot key
/tar aid
/pause 2
/say I am well versed....
/pause 2
/autoinventory


So I would gate to him hit hot key get item
then since the elevator is normally at the
bottom of the shaft point down and run like
a madman. I could fly down the shaft realy
quick. Then head to closest forge and do
combine gate and repeat. Took me about 2 hours
to get these 5 skill ups so not too awful bad.
