  • What to smith at 234?

I'm having problems deciding what I need to do to. Right now my Skill is 204 with 15% from my VT gloves. I have been doing ethearal metal rings. The problem is I'm quickly running out of money. I'm not a rich player I have about 25k to my name. What are the chances of me making a successful combine with a skill of 234 with gloves if it is a 250+ combine. I have a ton of Mistletoe Sickle blades from where i used them to skill up a long time ago. Maybe I could make sickles but I know it would not be cheap in any case. I"m afraid I'll run out of money before I get 252 skill with gloves. Are there any combines that I could do to make at least some pp?

Keep doing those rings until trivial, it is cheap, then do Enchanted Velium Bits till they triv out. Aside from those two items, there is no skillup path that is cheap, its all expensive and costs alot.

Your 25k will last about 30 sec when EVB trivs out. If you get 5 skillups from 25k you should feel fortunate.

You can do Shadowscream Armor all the way to 250. It's exceedingly cheap compared to other options but the farming is horrendously slow and boring if you can't AoE the owlbears and sonic wolves.

If you are an AoE capable class or can get the help of one it isn't that bad. If you don't have that option you can probably farm cash for other combines quicker.

You have to do a short quest for the tools but it's not too hard.

A quick search will give you far more information on it than I can include in one post.

There is time to farm plat and time to farm items. For me the best balance of time and farming was and is:

LDON armor to 212. I bought all the forages for temper- just not in a rush. Set a price for your self and buy when the price is right. I made a mixture of sizes to help sell. Amazingly, I'm slowly selling it all in the bazaar for more than merchant price. And my guild loves me for all their alt clerics in free medium level wisdom armor.

EVB to 222. I farm my own velium, but I buy it when price is right too.

Shadowscream on to morning. I've actually done a view points on this already for variety - farming in Hollowshade amuses me. I've set a swirling shadow bazaar price for myself too (after timing how much I can get in an hour). Oh, and the guide on this site does not mention clearly that you can buy or borrow the armor to get the first part of the quest done for the no drop anvil/hammer you need.

I guess with a 15% mod you don't really need shadowscream. You can reach your goal with LDON and EVB. But you might want to try your luck at farming the 3 drops needed compared to farming velium.

Black Acrylia weps seem to get me a few slill ups, just farm Akheva blood in Madians. The Halabards can be done rather cheaply. Thats what I have doing lately.

With 15% gloves you only need to hit 220 to be max effective skill. Keep doing Ethereal metal to 212 and then EVBs to 220-222.

You can do EVB til they trivial since they are cheap. OR you can do sickles and resell them since with near 250 skill (with a mod) they CAN run a profit if you make your own CE and imbue your own emeralds. I managed to slowly skill off sickles to 250 and at only a small loss. It takes a huge investment but if sickles sell for 1400 or so on your server a small profit is possible.

Word of warning, if you are going to AE Hallowshade Moor, try not to get stuck in the tent walls, ladders, etc....

Sickles also net about 1300 Tribute, so if you make then and just turn them in for tribute you are way ahead still.

I just got done doing some smithing for my 65 Cleric, went from 194 to 212 in about 200 combines of ethereal rings (I have hammer of ironfrost also a 15% mod item) just ask your guild, or friends that are capable of collecting bricks of ethereal energy to save them for you, it took me all of a week for all of my friends to gather up 200 bricks. Do the Ethereal tempers yourself depending on brewing level may have to do a few other combines to raise brewing to 200 or so but it is extremely easy and can be done in an hour or 2 now. Than i took my 65 ranger and farmed enough velium for 75 combines of EVB's, I now have a skill of 218 and plan on going back to farm more velium soon to raise my skill to 222 (or when it trivials out). 20 PP per combine is really not that expensive of a combine for smithing when you sit down and think about the cost per attempt for tailoring combines, or other high end smithing combines to raise your skill.
I still find it very disturbing at how much in comparison i spent PP and time wise on my ranger to get his smithing to 220 before EVB's came out and how quick and easy i did it on my cleric.
