    Addendum to Arrakeen's great post

2a. Not to mention you can turn in a summoned bag for a non-NORENT 100% 10-slot bag, which is slightly heavier than a Tinker bag. So you have gained a ~5250pp item, albeit nodrop. Do this with the gnome on the balcony in the bazaar.

And you can also summon another NO RENT one, even after doing that.

Only the grandmaster's carry-all is lore. You can summon as many grandmaster satchals as you can hold. Satchals aren't lore, just no-drop, and no-rent.

And when you finally do make it to 250, there isn't much in-game reward(other than a good feeling and a congratz from everyone here ). Yes, you will be able to make some pretty good armor for you and your friends, but much of your target customers, will have opted for Human Cultural instead, since it's slightly better for the same price, and easier to get since there are probably more human smiths on your server. You will still be able to make and sell the non-cultural high skill stuff, but you are then competing against your entire server, which can be profitable, or an excercise in futility, depending.

That isn't much of a market. The few troll warriors that worship Rallos Zek(if they can, I'm not sure; or for that matter, since I don't know, any troll that worships cazic is yours too), and the few trolls willing to take the stat hit for the unimbued.

if time is your concern, you can probably buy chunks of condensed ________ (i used shadow). I bought a bunch of bocks from the bazaar for 3p each, combine with flask of water and file to made condensed ___ arrow heads. triv at 116.

these arrow heads can then be combine with acrylia bundled arrow shafts. combine arrow shaft mold, flask of water, small brick of acrylia ore (yield 2) trivial smithing 108. These aroowos will get your fletching up to 250.

So if you are a warrior working on fletching also, this might be a good route.

I worked my smithing up to 42 by making various tools need for other tradeskills (frying pan for baking, embroidery needly fro tailoring). When i went this route (arrow heads), i had 280 arrow heads when was got to 116 smithing. I've given them all to my alt warrior.

Don't forget Ogre Shadowknights, who can't use the human stuff. And yes, I have even had a few ogre warriors buy Crimson Darkscale for whatever reason - not many though.

(Would that there was ogre unimbued for the high-end stuff - I know more than a few ogres who would like some.)

Frankly, though, unless there is no smith of a given race on a server, I doubt that there is much money to be made in cultural smithing now on most servers. Most of the people who can afford it bought the pieces they wanted last summer, in the first few months after it came out. Now most of my sales are either to twinks of uber players as they reach their 30s or 40s (not many atm, as now they are mostly working in PoP on their mains), or an occassional piece to players who may scrape up the cash to buy a piece every couple weeks. I am selling maybe a fifth of what I used to, if that-as an established and reasonably well-known smith.

While I don't advertise anymore - I sell by word of mouth - other smiths I know who do advertise, both established ones and up-and-comers, seem to be seeing the same thing. Cultural armor of any sort is not the money-maker it was three or four months ago.

My advice for anyone who wants to take up smithing is to do it because they want to smith - think of it as more of an avocation than a way to make a profit. If someone is the type who dreams of going to PoG and cutting down Tunare's trees to make charcoal for the forge, just because they like to sniff the fumes, they will love smithing. If they are looking to make a fast plat, smithing is not the answer. Sure, if VI does another change to smithing like they did with the 8 May recipes, a smith may be pleasantly surprised - but it shouldn't be seen as a way to quickly fund a horse/uberweapon_001/whatever, because that road will likely lead to dissapointment.

I'd go ogre shaman myself if you havent got too far. The rage line and the str buff line stack, along with form of the great bear. Its much easier/cheaper to hit 255 str as a shaman than a warrior.

                      Also, gating helps a LOT.

                      Imbuing jade?

yeah, theres like 6 ogre shaman on my server.

Seriously, they need to get of their asses and add in an unimbued version, and up the stats on crimson darkscale to be at least similar to human fierce heraldic (talking basic stats here folks, not just raw hp).

Changing the wis to int would be nice. They fixed pop armor. Why not darkscale (essentially sk armor)?

An adamantite ore vendor in oggok wouldnt hurt, seeing as most ogres cant even buy in neriak.

Ogre/troll beastlord armor would be nice, but not essential.

Oh, did I mention adding in basic unimbued armor?!

Just to continue what Flabbo said. I'm a 51 BST and I have no problem getting my str up in the 225-235 range and I didn't put anything into it. If I decide to get my Mask of War back from my roommate, I can push it up to 245-255 (not sure, haven't used it lately, can't remember what Yaulp 3 gets you and if it will stack with Frenzy). This is with NO special Str gear (wearing all Wis jewelry). For carrying, get SoW. Even with 1400 stones weight, my DE was moving when she had SoW.

For those who think Fine Plate is a difficult or expensive route, I think it's the BEST route. I am thinking of buying some Cha gear (Opal Steins) and some Str gear to see if I can get up to 255 Str and 110 Cha for the best prices without having to switch boxes in my house. As for success ratio: I was stuck at one point in the 160s for about 20 combines between skill-ups. How much did that cost me? Not much, I made a set of Fine Plate for someone and succeeded on EVERY single one w/geerlok. Even the BP and I think I was at 164.

For Fine Plate, the success rate is great, so long as you're 220+ Str (in my experience) and the sellback rate is pretty darn good. I failed about 1 in 10 average through the Fine Plate stage of my development.

As for Ogre Smithing... find other people to get your farmed stuff. Level 25 people that want some decent gear and don't mind spending the time farming light blues and greens. I got one Troll to get me a full stack of Elf Blood for an Imbued Shaman Tunic, that I succeeded on the first try for. I know people who have spent 75pp per Elf Blood... find some level 40 Ogre or Troll Warrior (with a deity) to go farm you a couple stacks of each in exchange for a piece of the high end gear (mattering on how much you're willing to spend)... You just got 13 BP combines worth of blood for the cost of what, 2-9 Blue Diamonds? That's 1k-4500pp on my server. If it saves me a day worth of playing (where I can go farm plat or exp instead of blood and pelts), it's well worth it. I've determined that I'm just going to send off lowbies to get stuff for me. Get me a couple of stacks of quality (low, medium, high) pelts and I'll give you a low-end BP or Legs, your choice (our BP kinda stinks still). Get me a stack of Dwarf or Elf Blood, I'll do the same. I completely stopped farming now. The armor is worth more to them and the pelts/blood are worth more to me. It's a good way to do it. I even got sick of killing spiderlings, gave someone backpack and told them I'd make him a full set of Fine Plate if he filled it with Spiderling Silks. So it cost me some money, I got a skillup and didn't fail on a single piece. Now I have about 120 Silk Threads and don't think I'll have to worry about that again for quite some time.

We all know that at level 49+ you can farm all the cash you want for the ore, it's getting the other 'boring' stuff that we have problems keeping patience for. I really hate killing at sister island too, since they all con warmly to me (went into Crushbone for a few levels in the low to mid teens)... just seems wrong to violate that trust.
