    Okay, first of all...

Remember there are two different "levels" of tradeskill drops. The level 45-50 wimp mobs drop the following:

Raw Pale Nihilite (JC and Smithing)
    Aligned Ore (Smithing)
    Raw Dark Matter (Tinkering)
    Hynid Mane (Tailoring)
    Hynid Blood (Tailoring)
    Taelosian Rock (Fletching)

A direcharm Enchanter can farm this junk all day long with minimal risk, and get experience and several quest drops along the way.

I have not seen ANY sources for "Shimmering Steel" or "Shimmering Nihilite". If I were to hazard a guess, I would assume that these items drop off more-difficult critters deeper in the expansion.

I would therefore also assume that weapons made from these higher-level materials would have greatly superior stats. Frankly, I'm rather encouraged that weapons made from drops off such weak MOBs have stats as good as they do. It's a far cry from the crappiness that is Fiery Ore, and is arguably a better return-on-inventment than even Black Acrylia weaponry. Akheva Blood drops off FAR tougher creatures than drop these things.

Sadly, slapping a rec. level of 50 on these weapons is going to trash the market value for them completely.

Oh, on a side note, while you're farming the ore and gems, save an (undamaged) Turepta Shell from the turtles, you'll need it to quest the reinforced JC kit for making the inlay kits. And have a friendly jeweler handy.

Recommended levels have no effect on how much damage a weapon does. Recommended levels my reduce the amount of Str or Int or HP, but it doesn't change weapon damage. Probably a bug, but it's been that way for a long time.

Do not count on the fact that FOR NOW the reduction in damage may/may not be working properly, enjoy it I guess, I did notice increases in damgemy ranger was doing with his razor-edge shantok/defenders lightblade, also my wife's SK is not getting the damage output I think she would be if the weapon was not recomended level, but concider what happend with (And shaman and enc's can tell which focus it was) the extend affliction was giving their debuffs, until SoE fixed that, you could hear the howls coming from the shaman board.

I expect this to be 'fixed' as well if it is not cutting back on the ratio of a weapn/

Sylphan I am going to have to disagree with you on that point. Required levels on a weapon that has recomended levels will indeed reduce the DMG # on the weapon. Great Sword of Shadows in the hands of a Level 1 Berserker goes from a 35 delay 34 Damage weapon to a 35 delay 1 damage weapon.

            Cavel,

The numbers do indeed drop when you look at the weapon. It still works at its best dmg/dly. A good example of this is all the new berserkers running around with the WMSB that is 31/28 dmg/dly (if memory serves me). It is recomended lvl, but you get the 31/28 (except for damage cap) all the way from lvl 1.

This 5/11 weapon is only marginally better than a Waning Light Katar when used in the primary hand by a L65. It's awful in the offhand. That seems reasonable to me, given the difficulty of the zone -- which is much hairier than Maiden's Eye is, for the above poster who mentioned the difficulty of acquiring Ahkeva Blood (although frankly the BA weapons need an upgrade as well).

The other Pale Velium stuff needs an *upgrade* -- instead what we're getting is a nerf on something that is okay as-is? They are not "okay for the zone the components drop in" -- the weapons are on par with the rest of the smithed weapons in the game, in that by the time you can acquire the items personally, the weapons are worthless to you personally.

The 5/11 is only better than WLK if you are under 1000 atk, which requires a pretty big atk debuff AE - at normal atk ranges WLK beats PVIC easily. It's only marginally better than beastlord 65 bare fists. At lower levels the 5/11 would be nice for faster skill-ups and it'd be decent dps-wise too, but it is hardly overpowered at any level.

The excel sheet that can be found here (link in first post):

                http://www.beastlords.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=528

.. is a pretty good tool at comparing beastlord weapons. Add the cestus in the HtH section and you'll see it is around Razor-Edged Claw and Khasek's Katar dps in the main hand at 65 with 1300 atk. And yes, very close to Entwood Mace.

In off-hand it loses clearly to bare fists.

I wouldn't mind seeing some really really nice items coming out of smithing, as long as the items are dropped high level as well

like a molds off an uber mobs that would make some good weapons and other materials off other uber mobs

What is the point of that though?

I sincerely doubt (Going 2hdr as I live and breath them), if it isn't better then a SEWs then no one in a Hgh level guild will really use one, and it just the high level raiders farming plat again, like it is for the most part for ornate armor.

That is something I want to avoid.

Sol Ro Towers is the "Raiders Plat Farm" as you can get 4-6 ornate pieces in a 2-3 hour group including 2 legs, nad bazaar em for phat plat. (This happend last night, btw)
