  • The little things that keep ya going...

Just wanted to report on a positive smithing experience....

I was sitting at 193 and sat down to do 220 ldon armor combines. Those combines brought me to 206. (17 attempts per skillup)

I realized I needed just 4 more skillups until I could do the 2 ethereal points.

I decided to head to the bazaar to buy 100 ldon temper components. (just to be safe)

With 250 brewing I made 93 tempers. And went to clicking....

Well...after the first 88 combines I had 2 skillups, and I was cursing the fact that I would still need to do a few more stacks.

    Combine 89 of 93 yielded skillup 209.
    Combine 90 of 93 nothing
    Combine 91 of 93 nothing
    Combine 92 of 93 yielded skillup 210.
Combine 93 was just for fun.

WOO WOO...I'm done with ldon armor combines.

Yup yup. Actually, all 300+ of those ldon combines were from temper components purchase in the bazaar for 75-100 pp per piece. Considering I didn't succeed at every brewing attempt, I'm sure it cost me 25-35k for the tempers.

Definitely not the most economical method, but it was fast.

            Dang!

            I swear...

Someone just needs to come up to me and hand me 50K that they don't expect back so I can skill up my smithing a little ways...

I'm merchant mining occasional temper components, and hunting my own in LDoN groups. Have a few friends saving them for me from their adventures, and it still takes a month or more to get 100 attempts saved up.

If you don't have excess $$ then the ldon method won't be a fast one for ya. It may make sense to use a bit of each method to change up the monotony of farming one area.

Search the ldon vendors for temper ingredients, farm a little velium, farm a little shadowscream, and pay attention to the bazaar. (I once found a vendor selling 20 temper components for 30 pp each!!)

My bankroll is currently still hovering around 70-80k, but I still hesistate to pay for alot of the Bazaar-able tradeskill components these days...I'd rather farm em than pay the outrageous prices people are asking for skillup components.

My Guild is STILL giving me LDoN tempers... I am not complaining as I sit on them and hand them out to our younger smiths that need some help skilling up. So moral of the story is ask friends, guildmates ETC for the items and normally you will be swimming in them.

One Guildy was using the tempers as a skill up route for brewing and just handing me the ones he made.

Well I am Not going to argue with him... He does fairly well on Success with them like 17 out of 20 normally.

Only thing I have used them for lately is the Sweet Sweet Twinkage of my lowbies.

My experience with the ldon temper combines is the standard 5% failure rate. As a 250+ geerlock brewer I still hover at about that failure rate (which is annoying when you forget to account for potential failed temper combines).
