  • What Should I Make?

Q: Ive been looking at many of the more expensive and hard to make items on this website and it seems that almost ALL of then take hundreds of lower-skill combines to make the item (Which seems somewhat annoying to sit there and have to make blocks, bits, etc.). My Question is what items should I make while getting skill ups to prevent myself from having to go back and making a stack of this and a stack of that like Joltings, blocks, bits, etc... Keep in mind im doing smithing for Plat-Making reasons so i'll be making alot of armor and weapons.

Any help is VERY welcome.. Help save me some frustration LOL

It looks like there are two problems with your idea. First, skillups at the beginning go /far/ faster then skillups at the end (with right stats, the first 50 points can be done in ... oh, 200 combines. The last 50 points, of course, take anywhere from 1,000 to 10,000 combines). The other problem is that subcombines for expensive armors are also expensive. A folded sheet of acrylia, for example, trivials at 45. However, that block of acrylia ore is going to run you 100 plat if you're lucky. A failure there would be far more annoying then failing a dairy spoon, lantern, or something on the more traditional skillup path.

Also... well, it's easy to make a small fortune with tradeskills, but it takes a large fortune first.

Ok, you want to make rings/sheets and the like for skill ups, so later you can use these for final products...

I wouldn't bother. You'll run out of sheets of metal long before you trivial the recipes which need it. Same with the chain. I tried it a bit, making pieces of ore from sharpening rusty weapons, then tried using that for the next step. I found I still had to make more pieces because my supplies ran out way too quickly.

Also until 188 where you may start making LDoN armour, I can't see much which would sell well. Which means you'll have trivialed rings and sheets ages ago.

Good luck on your quest. You can make money eventually, it is in theory possible. But unless you want to work hard at it, not gonna happen easily.

On Tunare the sale of Smithed items is fairly slow, we have 2 or 3 very powerful guilds that will sell all the tradable items they get from PoP and LDoN adventures that are not upgrades. So we see several Bejewled Architects BP's (54AC) for sale at around 3-5K where as the Blessed Full Mithrial BP's (51AC) go untouched.

Trying to Make Money on smithing is going to be tough, I suggest that you do the Subcombines to attempt Skill ups (Like you mentioned Sheets, rings and Jointing) then put them up for sale in the Bazaar. Sub-combine sales seem to be where the Money is at this point. I know every time I hit the Bazaar I look at Temper, then Folded, then Swirling and finally Humming to find items I need to increase my skill... The only Armor I can see going for a decent Amount at this point would be the Elemental Planes stuff, but that is just my 2bits.

Ohhh one last thing Ethereal Sheets and Rings are also in high demand always... Everyone wants Ornate armor.

So you want an item that has no subcombines, can get you all the way to 250, and sells well.
            hehehehehe this makes me laugh.

            I like this one too:
            person-'Not too much longer now'
            me-'for what'
            person-'GMing tradeskill'
me-'oh cool congrats, what skill you at now?'
            person-'50'
me-'umm. you have a long way still'
person-'I dont know what people complain about it only took me 15mins to get this far so I only have another 60mins left to GM.'
me- "ehhehe umm ok good luck with that."

Silound is absolutely correct. If you are in smithing to make plat, you are sadly mistaken. Farm plat.

What is a fortune to you? I made 3million pp smithing over the last month. There are holes in every server's economy. Fill those holes and you will make money. Making money will require hard work and extensive knowledge about what makes an item valuable and the cost of an item vs. the cost to make something similar. Also how you treat your competition will come into play. You can drive them out of the market with aggressive pricing, make deals with them, or perhaps corner the market on the ingredients; therefor forcing prices up.

Might as well just stop right now then, no one is making money at tradeskills like we used to. Sure there are a few niche sellers that are, but you probably will never ever be one of them.

So if you are doing this to make money, your SOL, those days are long long long gone.
