  • "Free points" aren't really...

I heard about Enchanted Velium Bits here, and decided to finally push through from 186 to finally get to 200... After a whole bunch of combines on breastplates, i started EVB at 187, and got to 200, buying velium in the bazaar (buying small and large bricks and breaking them down to small pieces of velium, since that's usually cheaper!)

In a moment of weakness, I spent 3 more AA and pushed ahead with some more smithing, since I had a windfall of plat with my regular hunting group. EVB got me to 210, where I stopped and started collecting bits for my "Free points" doing ethereal metal rings to 212. Pushing against the clock, cos there was a patch coming, I got enough stuff for about a hundred combines, realised I had to make the temper, got the stuff for that, went to the brew barrel with my 200 brewing, and started clicking...

"You are not skilled enough to attempt this combine!" or something! Yep, after further research, it seems that these "Free skillups" are only cheap if you have effective 220 (210 + geerlok or trophy) brewing! I wish that I knew that beforehand!

After the patch, I started back in on EVB and got 4 skillups to 214 all on one screen, so within about 8 attempts So it's all good now.

216 smithing and rising. If only I had some raid flags for PoP, I'd do breastplate cleansing from 220-227 or whatever it is, using gate and COTH on my mage to bounce between the vendor and the aide

Ahh well, I'll go to 222 with EVB and see how much luck I have doing some BD Cultural (Dark Elf) for my cleric friend

Heh, my first GM skill was brewing so I jumped all over those free points. It took me 6 combines of Ethereal Metal Rings to do 210-212. Now I'm back to farming CC for velium. I swear though, one more jerkwad in there training the ENTIRE WELL to a single point and then AE blasting them all at once and I'll scream.

People didn't call this combine "free" because of the cost to do it, at least, thats not how I read it back when I did it. Rather, prior to the gimping of mid-level smithing- LDoN plate and EVB's- people had to do sickles, shadowscream, or cultural which, as you know, required a huge amount of time, plat, or both.

In the face of this, these two points were felt to be a nice break as they didnt require a tremendous amount of time or plat and didn't require you to use 30-50 cultural tempers or 60-80 humming orbs.

Anywho, you didn't read it the same way I did and the info is still good. Personally, I still recommend people buy the stuff and get those two points, but with EVB's out there now, I guess it isn't such a big deal anymore.

Well, enough blathering, good luck with the rest of your climb.

You better believe I'm jealous, rabidly so. It gets to the point where I have to literally seek out and punt the singles hiding deep in the twists just so I can get the occasional kill in.

And the worst part about it is, I can't even complain about zone disruption or anything like that because the are the same level I am.

Ah well, I'm just whining, I do that often.

Yep, I have the +15% smithing Gauntlets from VT. When they dropped, I was at 189 smithing, so I spent every last bid point I had on them. I then took my brewing skill to 210 (it was at like 170) to make the tempers and got the 3 AAs to ride the train from 192 (Thanks, LDoN smithing) to 212.

And you know what? TOTALLY worth it.

Yep, I realised that they weren't free in terms of cash spent, but my point was that in all the reading I've done, nowhere did I notice the requirement of 212 brewing to make use of this recipe for smithing!

Ahh well, I got to 222, and tried some BD cultural plate. 8 successes, one skillup, out of about 18 attempts! I was very happy...

If , as a tradeskiller, who hopefully knows other tradeskillers, You don't know a Brewer over 212 who sees the benefit of helping a Cultural Smith, I'd be shocked.

Or check your local Monk - I'd be amazed if you didn't know a Monk with 220+ brewing. (It's the easiest tradeskill to GM, a lot of them do it just for the trophy bags.)

Personally I'd have to say jewelcraft is. 0-250 2 hours, sitting in thurg, between two vendors, you never have to get up (literally). no sub combines, no moving to buy/sell to brew barrel...but bewing is easy too )

jc is the easiest true but takes around 10k to gm while brewing takes like 500pp. if pp is hard to get brewing is easier to gm. should prolly say brewing is cheapest instead of easiest though.

i know some bards who have done it for the trophy. 50 cha helps a lot when charming.

Hi, I'm new here so please forgive my ignorance. Could someone tell me where or which NPCs I would go to in order to get my Jewcraft up to 250 in Thurg?

For jewelcraft use the vendors just opposite of the bazaar entrance in Shadow Haven. They have everything you need to get from 0 to 250 Skill.

I love AE'rs.. love them to death. Its so easy to leave you guys holding the bag unless you are camping the very bottom. So, feel free to ks each other over the well. Heh. There are two parts to CC Well. The bottom where the AE'rs are, and the top part. There are actually 8-10 miner spawns that can be camped on the upper half, that you won't even get in the zip code of if you are AE'ing. Sure, you'll kill the stuff that isn't miners.. but those don't drop velium. Basically, the idea is to know each of the spawn points, record the time you kill them at(just use a watch and a piece of paper while marking them on the LoY map) and be there 15 minutes later. Once you get the miner spawns on your timer.. they pop in front of you and are dead as soon as they pop. With no miners up... it really doesn't matter if you AE, and an AE'r without velium drops is lfg in ldon. Only time you lose a spawn or two is when someone wanders by at exactly the right time or are actually camping say the 3-spawn set in the one branch down and to the left after you come in.
