So what do you people skill up on? Last night I did 100 combines of boots in the PoK forge with 330wis, 280str ~ not a single skill up.

Meanwhile another tradeskiller did 200 combines, and went from 227 to 244

Your Smithing Skill is somewhere between 190 and 220, right?

That's the "Hell Levels" of Smithing. Something you'll just have to get used to.

But I did 20 sickles, got 1 skill up, had 10 successes, all of which sold at 2.5k

I guess that kinda makes up for it

It happens, trust me. I had horrible, and I mean absolutely horrible skillup rates with smithing with max buffs. It was just as bad as baking except I had to pharm all my items compared to storebought. Just keep grilling and you'll make it.

Just to show the bright side of smithing as well... my skillup ratio has been very constant so far (1 in 18 combines), with my worse hell level taking me 60 combines or so. And I have had very lucky sessions with 7 skillups in 45 combines, so I can't complain.

But I am still at 223 so... who knows.

In the end, it's all random, and 5k combines should take you to Grand Mastery.

Yeah and after the dance you have to hold your tongue just the right way... Generaly it will be out and to the left for us right handers, but out and to the right for those lefties out there.

200 combines on shadowscream boots and guants yesterday, no skillups, bad voodoo, current skill 233, str 280.

I feel something not quite right.

I have pretty much given up on shadowscream. I only plan on doing it when I can find the swirling shadows for sale in the bazaar.

Sickles are the way for me. I have the pre-nerf imbue spell, and sickles still sell for 2.5k on my server. So far I have done 80 attempts, made 34 sickles, for ~50k profit, and hit 233 smithing. And I am ready to do another run of 60.

Thank god the market on my server isnt crashed.

I have the same thing happen. I was originally hoping for a nice big run and doing it in one shot. That didn't work out.

Now I'm collecting for my 3rd run of Shadowscream (this time 200 combines). Luckily though, I have finally hooked my wife into EQ so she now farms the shadows for me and unfortunately learned how much they are worth.

She's now level 20 with 17kpp in the bank and I'm level 59 with 700pp in the bank. Just doesn't seem right...I guess i'm a tradeskiller.

But yeah, I've noticed very long runs on no skill-ups, currently at 228 skill, hoping this run gets me close to 235.

I got my +15% gloves from VT the other day, and had the pleasure of banging out a Hurricane BP and 4 Tae Ew Shields.

I just like being able to do those rare combines and not feeling guilty when I fail, haha.

I still plan on doing sickles to 250 tho, they are decent money

I was planning on complaining because I failed to get but a single skill up at 182 after doing 50 shadowscream combines. I was completely incensed at the unfairness of it all.

And if you want to hear something really painful, take a ride on the Wayback machine with me. Knowing that a patch was coming that changed the trivials on smithed items, I nevertheless failed to get my smith beyond 168, when banded cloaks would have gone to 222. D'OH!
