  • Cleaning Breasplates - skillup ratio?

I'm curious what people's results have been skilling up using the Grimmel breastplate cleaning. I was planning on going from 220 to 227 doing this, but after 80 cleanings I've gotten 0 skillups. Am I just having bad luck with the RNG or is this one of those combines that just inherently gives very few skillups per combine.

I know this combine is very cheap, but gating back and forth after each combine makes it very slow, so I'm just wondering if it is worth it.

I averaged exactly 1 skillup in 10 combines during this run. Had 355 int, so that helped a bit. 0 for 80 is pretty harsh, probably a bad run with the RNG. Anyways, like you said it's relatively cheap and more than likely faster than being able to farm/buy enough stuff for those 7 skillups.

Gah...sounds like the RNG gave you the cold shoulder...

Well, you can do enchanter velium bits to 227, which, depending on your supplies and farming abilities, may feel like a better route...you can always farm a bit, combine a bit, do some more cleanings, etc. and then sell whatever velium and CVT's you have left over...

It took me about 100 +/- a couple of stacks to go from 220 - 227 on bp cleaning. It took probably 3 or so stacks to get my first skillup, if not more. So it's not horribly bad on the skillups, but not wonderful. Still was a lot faster for me than farming SS combines though.

G, I think you are having those success rates because you are so gimpy!!

I never did cleansing bp's on my way to 250, but did run across several stretches of 100+ combines post 220 with no skill-ups.

In my experiece I got a skill up in about 20 combines with a wisdom of 355. Only once did I get an easy one on 3 attempts but that was it. The Smithing gods hate this druid for some reason, but as others have stated, it was a lot less mind-numbing than farming HSM.

Ok, thanks for the responses guys. I guess I was just having some lousy luck. I'll give it another shot. 1 in 10 would be fantastic...I'd be happy with just 1 skillup per 20 combines.

And yeah, I have 355 int unbuffed, so that wasn't slowing me down. Just the pesky RNG I guess.

And Fen, you're just jealous that they didn't have BP cleaning when you were working on your smithing.

Man the RNG sure hates you. 222-227 18 combines total here.

Now combine gods hated me, on Bar of pure enchanted Velium
                    5 combines before success.

Heh, 40+ combines for first skill up on the BPs, but after that it went pretty quickly.

I just realized that Nimphe Wildwood and I have exactly the same skill set. We should start a 1727 club.

                      Go go reluctant smiths =)

I've done 40 cleanings and got one point, on my 17th cleaning, I think. Finally said screw it and did the next 2 combines, succeeded on my 2nd try imbuing the BP.

                              cleaning skill ups

I had always dreamed of doing the 220 to 227, right up until the Bertox flag had me snookered. Then, low and behold, got the flag and away i went.

Oh, what a hike... up and down the lift.. back and forth to the forge.

Being paladin, had to make the trips both ways. Cleric friend told me of the one way trip and the Druid laughed as they could port between AG and Forge no problem.

Having used HSM 188 to 220 I thought this was the right way.

After a dozen runs back n forth, gave up. The time taken for a single attempt wasn't impressive.

                              However.

At skill 225 I was waiting for raid kick off in PoK. Looked at the clock, 10 minutes till formal gathering, why not. Made the acid wash and did 3 runs. 3rd run... skill up.. 226.

Some days later, I made a dozen or so washes. Nothing much was happening in guild and killing time with an LFG up. Think it was either th 5th or 6th run, skill up... 227.

IMHO... cleaning bp.. is an ideal use of those few minutes while you wait for something. A stack of washes in your backpack, and do a run. What the hell - I was lucky, why not you.

An alternative strategy for the tank, would be to have Druid / Wizard / Mage assist you in this.

Druid & Wiz: Druid and you bind by AG, Wizzy stands and stays by Forge. Wizzy TL to bind. You get the BP. Druid 'ports' to pok and you are right near the forge. Repeat.

                              Mage replacing either role: CoH.

If only I'd thought of this stuff at 220, would have saved many hours of HSM.

                              Hope it helps.
