  • New Smith

Alright, I decided smithing was probably the most profitable tradeskill in the long run. I'm a High Elven Mage (127 Int, 85 Char). About how much should I expect to spend to get my 250th Skill point? I cant really afford Intelligence gear, so that option is gone, unless there is anything cheap.

2-300k isn't unreasonable for 250...higher depending on how lazy you are or how high certain smithing components sell for in the bazaar on your server.

You will need INT gear for regular use. Skill ups go much faster with higher INT. Invest in it, you will be thankful at the end.

          smithing

          First off,

Smithing can be done very cheaply provided that you have the patience adn the willingness to spend long hours farming in Hollowshade and shadeweavers. I speak of shadowscream of course. I am currently a 244 smith. I started seeing profit at around 226, which is when I started makeing sickles and BD cultural. In all I believe I spent approximately 6k to reach 226. Sound unreasonable? Not really. I spent six months doing nothing but farming with 0 exp in the mix. Has it paid off? You bet. As a paladin I have not only been ableto make myself heraldic armor, but by selling sickles and armor I have managed to upgrade to even better.

          Why smith?

Well you could do it for the profit involved, but you may not find it to be all that fulfilling. I began because I am stubborn by nature (genetic I think) and figured that i could get my smithing up for less than it would cost to buy a set of heraldic. I did not take the time spent farming and combineing into account. I now smith because I enjoy it.

As far as profit goes, you will find that the market has some pretty severe swings. After ornate molds became commonplace int he bazaar the price of heraldic took a major dive on my sever. I spent 4 months without a single sale and had to sit there with all my cash tied up in ingredients and product. Basicaly I would not look at smthing as a get rich quick scheme. It is work, and it is a lot of work to smith for profit.

Get your int as high as possible. You should be working on that as a pure caster anyways.

Get your cha as high as possible. This may be done cheaply by getting yourself a set of opal encrusted steins. I often see them for about 20 pp and they willl each add 25 cha. This will save you a lot of plat in the long run. Cha = better prices when selling to NPC and Cha = better prices when buying from NPC.

You may be a bit low for hardcore farming in Hollowshade as a 18 rogue, bt you didn't mention what lvl your mage is. I did all my major skillups at lvl 52. Farming in Holowshade can be dnagerous. Once the war was fixed I found myself dead at the hands of grimling defenders a couple of times due to being summoned in circles.

          basically..

          1) yes it can be done cheaply, but it will take more time
          2) yes smiting can be profitable, but the market can be fickle
          3) Get your cha and int as high as possible. Both will save you money in both the short term and the long run. An int buff just before a long skillup run will help.
          4) to 188 was easy
          5) dont forget your two easy points doing EE rings at 210 (with geerlock of course)
          6) Attempt items that are reasonably close to you skill (within 15 or so) This will reduce our failures and therebye reduce your costs.
          7) I have no idea how LDoN has changed the lower smithing lvls, but I do know that it was intended to fill the gaps in smithing lvls.

          Well, I hope this helped

Thanks for the GREAT info. Ill grab myself some steins in the bazaar, and see if i can get some cheap Int items. Im not sure, but i think ill do the velium bits until 227, and then see about the prices of sickles on my server (if they could make me even break even). I looked at some of the stuff smithies could make, and my mouth dropped open. I want to be a self-made twink. but smithing seems to be like a good, worthwhile tradeskill.

kei +25 int. i too little for it as well. grrr.
robe of tears +9 int i think. about 20-50pp in luclin bazaar.
bracelet of comprehension +15 each each but dang pricey
gold chitin bracer +5 int 500pp ish.
golden bracer +7int 2kish on luclin
qey and mtp +10 int. qeynos afternoon tea, misty thicket picnic.
golden effreti boots. +9 int 2.5-3k on luclin.
golden ear stud +3 int each 20pp
bat skull earring +5 int each find some reasonable.
astral leggins of the titans + 10 int legs. 3k
astral cloak of the titans +9 int back. 3k

those are what really comes to mind. look up zerra's smithing guide. excellent for cheapness.

guide on learn a skill section of smithing on mage page is good to but nowhere near as detailed as zera's

that covers a lot of the int stuff. i look for stuff on lucy and then check alla's for prices. look for rose quartz or saphire or polished quartz jewelry. all player made and gives int.
