  • Halfling Skillup Route 115 up

Just wondering is someone has already compared the cost and skillup rate of doing Vale Sewing Kits from 115 to either:

1.) Doing embroidery needles (the racial ones after are sort of impractical to me as a cleric I can't forage)

2.) Starting Fine Plate at 115

I'm a 64 Cleric, can spend up to about 6kpp I guess and am really just looking to get high enough to finish my 8th shawl.

I did searches on most of the stuff last night but didn't see anyone that had really worked it out cost wise so, if needed, I guess that will be my task.

I'm not, nor will I ever be, a halfling, so cannot comment on your exact question. However, I did young smithing long long ago, back when it was *the* thing to do regular sewing kits for a few points. Skilling up on containers, well, sucks. I normally carry 7 bags in my inventory, so making a container to skill up on, means vendoring that sewing kit everytime you succeed. Big pain in the rear! Good luck on whichever route you choose.

If you're Karana worshipping then last I heard (unless it was changed) you had an excellent route to 188 with a religion-restricted recipe.

Otherwise if your main goal is 188 I'd probably recommend cultural needles to 133 (profitable), kits (dirt cheap, all storebought) or LDoN ringmail to around 160 (LDoN Ringmail will let you profit, but tempers may be a pain to get), then fine plate to 188. Going this route you will lose next to no money at all if you vendor mine LDoN tempers or collect them yourself.

Halfling clerics are all bristlebane worshippers so that's out. The racial needles all require foraged stuff as do the LDoN ones sort of, other than the fairly rare drops from there. Was thinking to save the LDoN drops as I got them til after the kits trivialled at 162.

I know the kits will be a bit of a pain with them being containers but at only 1pp each, dropping them on the ground for passing new players or spinning around to a nearby vendor should be an option.

I'm also not much of a user of the bazaar so do prefer just vendor buyback rather than waiting for trading to recoup my losses - esp as I'd really like to get to my shawl in the next two weeks.

Didn't work up and document a cost comparison, but I did the Vale Sewing Kits for skill-ups and found it worthwhile. Mind you, you'll need to get the ore in PoK. But, you can change the ore into metal bits there too so you'll be a lot lighter when you zip down to RV to use the cultural forge.

I also did some of the racial needles. They sell to merchants for around 9pp, so you can afford to get some of the components in the bazaar and still not bust the bank. If you get them cheap enough, you can actually make some profit even if you can't forage.

I would also recommend against doing the LDoN Ringmail if you plan to go further than 188 since you will definitely want all the temper components you can get for after fine plate. Most especially if you don't plan to sell the results in the bazaar to offset the cost of buying more temper components.

When I did smithing for the shawl, I made condensed shadow arrowheads until 119, then skipped ornate chain and made fine plate. I did fine plate to 185, then did my shawl combines.

Of course, fine plate requires leather padding, which requires farming pelts and spiderling silks, or buying in bazaar.

Teory, shoot me a tell in game and I'll be glad to give you some LDON tempers if you want to take that route. I can forage and I have a lot of them stacking up for when I get back into smithing (read: make some money back after buying a bunch of spells). I'm happy to share with a fellow halfling!

Thanks Kari - woot, 3 Vazaelleans on one thread

One great part of the vale sewing kits as a halfling cleric is that I can faithstone back and forth between PoK and Rivervale so there should be minimal zoning involved....I'm zoning sooo slow now!

I think tonight I take one more stab at getting the last 2 yellows of 64 done and then I'm in never have to level again territory! (Ok, so I'll likely only get one of the 2 yellows done, but that last yellow of your last level has to be pretty inspiring to finish it off!)

I will likely do fine plate from 162 to trivial so also thought I'd save my leather padding purchasing/farming til then. It's another good reason to be 65 first as I get an extra two mana per tick regen so can run around aoe'ing spideys and animals that much easier.

Not all racial needles require a foraged ingredient. Clockwork essence is made from fish in Ak'Anon (clockwork koi).

I did cultural needles to 132 because fish were cheap. 3 cp for bait

Also, I followed Zeralenn's Economical Smithin guide to the letter. I made 12 pp through 132 so my smithing up to that point was free.

Good luck to you on whatever route you choose.

Thanks Aeth - I missed that and have never really tried fishing before! Sounds like a good job for one of those nights where you're kind of cleaning the apartment but can pop in ever couple minutes and hit a button!

zera's guide has teh cheap way to do it without explaining everything myself. at 64 go kill sola gobs and get all the hq ore you can get. bind in bazaar and gate back. in bazaar turn it all into rings and then you should be able to leave bazaar. at another forge (pok is nice. has jewelry and chain patterns and bank in same zone. if not banking i suggest north qeynos cause of lag in pok) do everything. nice thing about this is if you stick close to triv and use geerlock you make money. electrum mail seemed to double my money when farming ore myself. fs weapons also convert to ore. sell daggers and other little things though. get pp to buy more ore than ore from them.

if you're desperate and doing store bought ore, get a wizard like me to port you to nk and run to highpass and get 4 large bricks of unrefined ore. should buy for about 28pp or less and do quest for 44pp and restock vendor in pok if you want to do that and buy hq ore.

i think you could cream sola though so i suggest that. bar room is good for many pulls and load yourself up till you can't move. (with enough wr bags and str ignore this.)

                      Racial needles Nerfed?????

I have been doing the Racial needles for months now, using them as a pp source for the rest of my trade skills... Hoever, tonight I spent a lot of time and money, prepping to make a few stacks, and after making the first ten needles, went to sell them. To my surprise... the vendors now tell me they will give me nothing for them. Anyone else having this problem?

Did they nerf another good thing and not say anything about it?

I can vouch for Vale kits to be an inexpensive way to hit 168 (I htink that's trivial). It cost my cleric roughly 1400 at most to go from banded trivial to 166 so I could do infused threads.

Galadrail This is not a problem... Well it is for those of us wanting to make some cash on trade skills... It is a change that SOE made a bit ago, one or two patches if memory serves. I believe this also effects normal embrodery needles as well.

                            fish the needles

You don't have to forage for cultural needles. Go fishing.

Clockwork koi in Ak'Anon or barren flounder in Erud's crossing.

Takes about 2 to 3 stacks so easy to get.

                              halfling smithing

FWIW, I play a halfling druid and skilled up to 162 on vale sewing kits (went to SolA for an hour a night for a week and farmed FS weaps for the metal), then switched to karana arrowheads.

The Mark of Karana, though tagged for WAR/ROG/RAN, is usable by druids.

Didn't keep track of early sewing kit skillups, but here's today's result:

159 to 162 on sewing kits, 29 combines
                              162 to 188 on arrowheads, 235 combines

Now foraging LDoNs for the next run to 212 on plate.
