  • Cleansed BP - Aid Grimel

Quick question about the Aid Grimel quest and smithing:

I know that you need to have at least a 220 skill in smithing to even begin the quest, but I notice that the Cleansed BP has a trivial level of 227. So does this mean that you can continue making the cleansed BP over and over again to raise your skill from 220-227? Seems to be quite a cheap and convenient way to do it if this is case (and you have your flags, of course).

I swear, I answered this exact question somewhere last week, but now I can't find it.

Yes, if your skill is 220, you can cleanse the breastplate over and over until you eventually skill up to 227.

    BUT, as you mentioned...

You've got to have the proper flags!!!!

and it's a LONG run, so I hope you can gate.

For the Smithing part of it...and I thumbed through all of the old posts before I asked the question...it's the only reason I posted it in the first place. So yes, I checked before I asked that question because I was certain that someone had already asked it before, I just couldn't find it.

In order to do the Seven "Freebie" points in Smithing, you must have completed the following PoP events:

--Grummus (Fat Ogre in PoD Castle) Need a full raid
--Carpain Cycle (Key event in CoD that allows you into Bertoxx's Lair) Need about 8 solid groups, gives only 36-38 keys per event.
--Bertoxxolous Event (2-hour event in CoD. Includes killing 12 Kings to spawn Bertoxx)

This is in NO way enough information to complete these events, but if your guild is capable, these are 3 of the easiest events (IMHO) in PoP.

The overall cost is going to be cheap. The acid wash is made by 3 Celestial Essence and a Jar of Acid, all vendor bought and cheap about 4pp an attempt.

So, when you've done this the first time and you have a Cleansed Breastplate in your possession, do you destroy that Cleansed Breastplate and talk to Aid Grimel again? Am I correct in assuming that he will continue to give you Filthy Breastplates as many times as you ask (providing you don't have one already)?

I'd hate to see someone destroy the Cleansed one and ask for another, only to have him say, "Hey, didn't I give you one of those already???"

That is correct Emerrest. He will give you a new one over and over. It's triggered by the proper text.

Having done this (100+ trips), here's some tips:

                      1) lev pots are your friend if you don't have innate gating skills.
                      2) it's quicker to lev down the winding staircase in between the library and the forges than it is to run up the wall and float over.
                      3) as soon as you get to the top of the elevator, shoot it back down. by the time you get to grimel and ask for the bp, it'll be halfway down the shaft
                      4) you don't need to target grimel to get the bp. just say the phrase within hearing range of him.
                      5) guildies will laugh at you if you forget to lev before jumping down the elevator shaft.

I've calculated your odds of success. Sorry, looks like you're gonna die.

                        LOL

I once fell down the elevator shaft. Some insane amount of damage = death. *sigh*

Hehe Nihixul, I fell down (and died) twice. In the space of an hour. Thoroughly embarrassing. But you know what? I'd gladly die 10 more times (with rezzes, of course) if I could get 7 easy skillups for every 2 deaths!

83 combines, 2 deaths, 3 hours, 7 skillups. After what I endured to get smithing to 220, I'll take it!
