  • Stats for a good Smith

What is the preferred race and stats for a GOOD smith?

    Thanks in advance.

  • #2
Well, a GOOD smith must worship either Tunare, Mithaniel Marr, Erollsi Marr, Brell, or Quellious.

This limits you to Humans, Barbarians, Wood/High elves, Dwarves, Erudites, Halflings and Half-elves. Oh, and frogloks.

An EVIL smith, on the other hand, can worship Cazic Thule, Rallos Zek, or Innoruuk.

This gives you Trolls, Ogres, Humans, Iksar, Dark Elves, and Almost any race (Except dwarves and frogloks) that can be a warrior.

    I'm sure I missed a few.

erudites have highest starting int. more int than wis from any other race. problem is no cultural smithing. human have 2 cultural smithing that are gap fillers. less important with ldon. dwarves for rp purposes? i a wizard main but when i make a dwarf alt it will smith.

Your question is too vauge to warrent a realistic replay.

Is this a noobie smith, are you starting a lvl 1? Is this an existing character? By Good do you mean good alignment or do you mean good as in successful? Finally, when you ask for stats do you mean starting stats or buffed stats?

Each server is vastly different from the next. One server may have 2 Barbarian Grandmaster smiths, anohter server might have 20. That will greatly impact the prices and availabilty for Helanic armor on both servers differently. So you need to look at your own server market, find out what that market can bare as a missing link (smith) then go that route.

As far as stats are concerned. No noobie class has good smithing stats, One person mentioned Erudite, while they have high INT they also have one of the most difficult cultural Armors to obtain bits for. Ogre/Troll are relative idiots when you look at the INT starting stats, but they have tremedous STR. So in relation, an Ogre/Troll is likely to be a more successful smith right out of the noobie gate since they have an incredibly high starting STR in relation to a Erudites starting INT.

To conclude, you ultimatly need to look at the 200+ skill range of your chosen class. How will they perform basic duties such as farming or foraging? Will they be able to undertake these simple yet mandatory tasks with relative ease, or are they going to struggle with significant downtime or forced to rely on bazaar/vendor farming (costly) for green drop components?

Chosing the right smith is crucial when it comes to post 200+ skill items. Its very server specific, and greatly depends on your ability to be self sufficient. In the end for a smith, your goal is 305 STR, 305/355 INT/WIS (melee/caster) and 115+ CHA (max CHA for best NPC prices).

105 CHA usually nets me best vendor prices.

It also depends on what you have access to. KEI is 25 int, HoS (FoS and Fo7 as well) are 60 str (primal essence and avatar stack and add more STR, but avatar is a bit pricey). My smith caps his STR with shaman buffs because I have a 60 shaman on my second account, despite being a dark elf which is not a race renowned for a lot of strength.

I'd say human is generally the best race to smith with since the armour is the top warrior armour, and has the greatest flexibility in wearable races and therefore margest market. I'd consider dark elf or high elf if you want to make caster chain, but both races have limited markets.

Ogres, barbarians, dwarves, gnomes all have niche markets, if that niche is large and open on your server, they would make a good choice. If not, they would suck.

Half elves, wood elves, iksar, vah shir, trolls and erudites have nothing to make in cultural smithing or nothing worth making.

I am refering to a Frog Paladin Smith & a Dwarf Paladin Smith.

                Not a noob character.

Well, froggies have no cultural at this time and dorfs do, which give them a viable alternative to shadowscream at higher levels.

At the moment, frogs lack cultural armor. But with LDoN armors, that is far less of a handicap than it used to be. To properly answer your questions, you ought to think about what you want this character to make. Dwarves have cultural smithing, which could bring in bucks if your market is not saturated. I put a ton of effort into getting wis gear for my pally, questing a huge amount. My magelo profile has an alternate profile for tradeskill gear (magelo seems to leave out the wis AAs though). With only 3 AAs spent on wis, I can get wis from 85 (91 if you count the AAs) naked to 275 (without buffs, food or drink).

This is very true. Look for what sells or does not sell on your server.

Stat wise, Strength is by far the easiest on most people.

Melees and hybrids smithing should go for that-I have a "smith suit" to get me up to the point that I just Abduct a rodent and I'm at 255 STR.

If you're a caster, it's Int or Wis depending on which you need normally.
