  • Where to go from a 132 skill

Any suggestions on what I should be doing now that I've managed to reach a smithing of 132? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

And note Zer's guide is version 5.0, not 4.0. Otherwise any of those will be helpful to you.

I've followed Zeralenn's guide from 132 to 139 by farming Fine Steel weapons and High Quality ore in Sol A to do Ornate, but decided against going further due to the cost of the gold bars to go from 139 to 155. So, I have about 8 stacks of leather padding in the bank and decided on starting Fine Plate. 60 combines of Fine Plate Visors got me 19 skill ups to 158 last night with 255 Wis and a Geerlok. So, to sum up, I'd avise following Zeralenn's from 132 to 139 then switching over to the Fine Plate route also from Zeralenn's. I'm only planning to go to 188 for my shawl in the immediate future, which I can get to with the Fine Steel route. Should I choose to go further, farming stuff for Shadowscreem and the occasional LDON or old cultural piece (High Elf here) are in order.

OMG - you did what??? you didn't follow Zera's bible <g>????

Seriously, while the gold is expensive, I still wouldn't start fine plate before you have to, because the sellback rate (on chain) is very high. I made it all the way through the end of chain with minimal loss (less than 100 pp).

At least on Stromm, low quality pelts and spiderling silks aren't a common bazaar drop anymore. And for me with working on multiple skills, I'd rather spend my farming time gather the components for human cultural than farm spiderlings and pelts. It is far easier to farm HQ ore (imo) than to find spiderlings that drop silk or a pelt that isn't ruined.

Glad you got some good skillups, but I still recommend following Zera's method all the way to 188. Now I just need to check out version 5 to see how I can dovetail that with human cultural.

Edit: Got version 5 - starting on the road to Aid Grimel.... and Insanity

Please make sure you have 5.0.1 ... I made an error on the new LDoN trivials that is fixed in the "new" new version.

There is a good reason I do not recommend switching over to fine plate until you have trivialled the gold chain: the difficulty of acquiring padding in the quantity you will need. 8 stacks of leather padding is NOTHING. 8 stacks will NOT get you nearly as far as you think it will. You are going to run out of leather padding long before you run out of points in fine plate, and you want to give yourself all the advantages that you can.

The sellback on ornate chain to vendors is quite decent, so as long as you stick close to the trivials and use a geerlok, the money loss is not that huge.

That guide has been a major lifesaver. I love it.

i think you lose less money on ornate chain when you buy it all than when you do fine plate. much much less when you do ornate chain. i did hours of crawling on my own and i recommend zera's guide. it is almost exactly what i had figured out for myself and the numbers in it help bunches.

People are reporting that you actually make money doing LDoN Chain recipes now. Of course it uses precious tempers, but if you're in the habit of buying padding and tempers eventually drop around the same price, or are always common finds on vendors, I suppose people will earn money by smithing up to whatever the chain trivials at. It's something I'm going to have to note in my guide's next version after I play around with it more.
