  • a personal question to you about smithing cultural

No real merit to this question. I am just notoriously curious and like to start a topic on this

If you were to go smithing all over again. As in start afresh with a new toon (god help us). And if you were to choose a smithing based on cultural smithing in mind...

Would you do so with same race/class/religion or choose another. And if so what race/class/religion would you choose? And why?

note: i know that religion has no bearing on smithing culturals but it has bearing on what you can wear.

I would have remade my bard into a RZ or Veeshan worshipping bard, still human. Being agnostic, I totally missed out on the more bard oriented Human Cultural

With no foreknowledge of the game (Kyros is my first character), I made him a human paladin of Erollisi Marr. In terms of RP flavor, that seemed the best choice to me. In terms of min/maxing, I should probably have made him Mith Marr -- better stats on cultural armor.

Other than that, I think I got lucky. I chose a very nice class / race combination for smithing despite not having a clue that smithing was even in the game early on.

Ndaara, my high elf magician smith, chose to worship Erollisi Marr for RP reasons. When I learned that Tunare Int Casters could wear the smithed mithril chain, i immediately prayed to Mother Tunare about changing my allegiance, however she informed me that deity changes are not allowed for something as frivolous as fashion.

As it turns out, the period of time i would have actually worn the Tunare-only armor was very short.

Being a smithing Magician, on the other hand.... had i known the difficulties of being a non-enchanter smith, I might have made Ndaara an enchantress for the sake of my trade. Needing imbued emeralds, collecting enough morning dew, AND enchanting large bricks of mithril, is miserable. I can't do ANY of those things with my smith, i have to mule or beg for all of it.

i've met a lot of wonderful folks in my years of begging for enchanting and morning dew, so... i don't know what i'd do, if i had it to do over again. I've never been overly concerned with efficiency, so i suppose it all works out overall.

about the worst you can smith

erudite. wizard. worship sol ro. meaning i dont have cultural smith cant wear any of it and the diety stuff has nothing for ole flamehead. (said quite lovingly of course) on the other hand the rp value of walking up next to the big burly barbarian and dwarven warrior smiths and making the ornate chain chain they are still working to cause i'm a smart little bastard is priceless. /evil

high quality metal bits= hours of farming fs weapons or killing hg in rathe
          bracer chain pattern= 5pp
one uping the big warrior at smithing with a wizard with 52 str= priceless

edit i love the rings. have 2 of them and the -16 str that goes with it. thought all gods had a peice of jewlery and an idol though. he dones't have any cultural anywhere. just the 5 items. (counting each ring seperate) now if only i could get velium ones for +10 int -10 str. hummm...?

Imbue Fire Opal. Sol Ro imbue, works on jewelcrafted items.

Ring isn't bad at all,if I remember right.

Case in point. Now,if they'd have made that an imbue for mithril/admantine chain,it would have rocked.

I am an agnostic human smith.
I used to regret that I coouls not wear my best armor, but I really would not change anything.

I'm High Elf Magician. So my only complaint is the "caster chain" that you can make with the really nice +INT added to it is Tunare only (and I'm Mith Marr).

Although now it probably wouldn't make a difference now days (all my gear is better than the cultural), it would have been nice to wear some of my creations over the last year. The non-imbued just didn't have the stats (lack of INT) to be worthwhile to wear.
