  • I had a good day

Spent some time farming for shadowscream this morning and got enough for 22 combines. I head off to the forge to use them up before joining some friends for some exp.

I had a very nice suprise with 4 skill jumps from the 22 combines. I went from 196 to 200. With luck like that I should have bought a lotto ticket

        Re: Shadowscream

I recently hit 188 in smithing after completing trivial on the plate armor. I gathered enough for 16 combines of shadowscream and was amazed that I got a skill up on the first try! (189)

My STR was at 215 at the time (with geerlok equipped also).

However, on my next 15 attempts I had no skill-ups. For a warrior, it takes a long time to farm for shadowscream - even at level 54. Have SoW on else they tend to run screaming away once they hit about 40% health. (Annoying). Hope your swimming skill is good to - they all swim fast.

So I dread seeing a streak of no skill-ups but I'm sure we all have those.

One superstition I have about doing tradeskills, always have your main stat HIGHER than the trivial of the item you are making and you will have a "better" skill-up rate. So if you are trying to make a 200 trivial item - be sure your STR or INT or WIS (one) is higher than 200. I truely believe the skill-up formula looks at that.

          Just two notes --

First, as a warrior I'd suggest pulling several mobs at once in Hollowshade. They will "group" so you don't have to run after every single one of them.

Second, with how inexpensively many +Str, Wis and Int items can be bought, it is always a good idea to get your primary smithing stat as high as possible. But it's simply a "higher is better" correlation. A lot of research and comparisons have been done on this.

Hehe Love the feeling of a skillup when you try something new. I got 189 on my first piece of Acrylia I tryed on after doing Fine plate for ever. Now with over 100 combines doing Shadowscream and acrylia, I'm begging for just one more. I've now managed to get enough swirling shadows for 100 combines, farming the other two now. Bound and determined to get my skillup any day now. Hoping I can push to 200 soon.

Congrats on your streak friend may it follow you to 250.

You have to really enjoy those nice runs when you get them. I have a screenshot of my going from 212-216 in 4 combines of SS.

I had the same experience on 9/8 before the patch, or maybe it was the day before that. 202 to 207 in 27 combines. This AM I went through 21 combines (oops, forgot imbued gem on one = trivial) and didn't get any skill gains.
