  • help hi elf smith stuck at 189 options?

Hi, I seem to have hit a brick wall at 189 like most other people and would love some suggestion or options for me so i might pick my poision so to speak to keep on smithing up to 250 eventually.
I have a 65 enchanter decent gear and I'm a hi-elf. I have over 200 swirling shadows banked and have done the vah shir quest for my hammer and anvil and I also have about 200 morning dews. I have 280int and get a str buff when i smith and have my geerlok to try and save on costs. I was planning on trying to do some cultural armors for skillups to 212 or so but found out some of the trivials listed are wrong =x. I also heard blessed mithril sickles are a viable skillup im sure this has been rehased many times but anyone with some insights on how or what i should do to work on skillups would be greatly appreciated. I do have about 20k that i could blow on smithing but would rather not if i didnt have to.
and can someone else confirm this as both of these items says a much higher trivial yet when i made them they told me it was trivial at 189. Thanks!

    Enchanted Folded Sheet Of Mithril
Components: elven smithy hammer, enchanted block of mithril, morning dew
    In: koada'dal forge
    Yield: 1
    Trivial <= 212 ( i did 2 combines both were trivial at 189?? please confirm someone )

so guess im mainly asking if there is anything i can do with my dews since those 2 recipies are trivial im gonna farm more item from the war for ss armor as i get time and was curious if any other option then sickles and how hard are they?

If you can hold out until Tuesday, and have pre-ordered LDoN, and have a regular xp group (or are willing to join pickup groups), LDoN smithing may be a viable alternative for you.

I doubt you'd spend less than 300k to grandmaster smithing from where you are right now with Mistletoe Cutting Sickles.. if you don't want to spend the money (or can't afford to) then shadowscream is the way to go.

The Trivails are listed as Less than or equal to 212 in the trivials. Meaning that we are not sure exactly where they trivial but the info provided was that someone of skill 212 would not get a skill up.

If you want advice from a 222 smith it is this. Elven Chain till it becomes trivial, Old world plate till over 200 then Shadow Scream... Now some rumors about the smithing in LDoN indicates that we will have a better path soon... I can only hope.

Shadow Scream, while a Pain is the LEAST expensive way to go.

Take a look at that thread for pre-LDON options. I posted somewhere in there what I've been doing. Up to 226 High Elf Smith so far, but the RNG hates anything poor Ndaara tries to do so you may have far far better luck with your smithing than i have.

Based on Cedir's very exciting posts, you may want to hold off til next week. Based on other stuff i've read, poor Ndaara missed the boat, yet again LOL Oh well. Just think how exciting it will be for me when she finally reaches her goal!

After weighing the pros/cons of the current 4 188+ smithing pathways (SS, Cultrual, Sickle, Acryl) I decided to do cultural.

I too am a HIE and have enjoyed moderate success in my skillup/attempt ratio for cultural armour. Had a nice run of luck yesterday and got 4 skill ups in 37 attempts.

The only pita about HIE cultural is morning dew. For each actual smithing attempt you will need 5 dews:

            - 1 dew for enchated block of mithril
            - 1 dew for enchanted sheet of mithril
            - 1 dew Ench mithril ring
            - 1 dew Ench mithril chain jolting
            - 1 dew Moonlight Temper

If you have access to a forager (I use my friends ranger to forage on a 2nd PC while I am playing my cleric) it will make life alot easier. You may also contract others to forage/kill brownies for dew and I do this as well.

While the costs involved are higher then SS, they are far less then acryila and sicklings.

            good luck!

            cheers

Sickles loose too much money due to fails until around 220 in skill (at which point you start to break even/make a profit selling)

acrylia is a LOT of time and effort for little results (read, windstones), if anyone says they used acrylia they are fibbing just a tad

i have not done shadowscream myself but i hear that is viable, or use your cultural recipes to your advantage. there should be some dew in the bazaar (unless someone else is buying it all up ), but you should find some contacts to help forage and/or pay people to forage. this way you will have a good base of people to get dew from when you are actually trying to make armor that is worth anything.
