  • Soooo discouraging

I am not a powergamer, and I can not spend 5 or 10 hours a day playing everquest. But I want to make my very own Blessed Full Mithril, darn it!

The progression to 180-something was fairly easy. Not *easy*, but fairly.

Now it's just silly hell. I can spend at most 3, *maybe* 4 hours EQing on a work night. I can barely stand to farm for more than an hour at a time, but even if I farm for two hours, I will get, at most, 50 swirling shadows.

That is enough for 25 combines, which is generally not enough for a skill up.

    WHY?

You can always do sickles.... Seriously, it wasnt meant to be easy. A lot of us do agree, there is a big gap in post 188 smithing, unless you're one of a select few races, in which case you have it easy. If you can't stand farming shadows you could farm cash to buy them. Or farm cash to do sickle combines. Or do cultral if you can. Time vs. Money here again folks.

It takes time, no question. Just farm a little each day untill you have enough to do a significant number of combines (whatever that is for you). Since swirling shadows are no longer no rent you can bank everything until you're ready to hit the forge.

Most people seem to get about 1 skill up per 20 combines, but I know it can also be difficult to move from 188. Be patient, keep at it and you will succeed.

edit: You probably know this, but make sure either your INT, WIS, or STR is maxed for the best chance at skill ups.

You may want to wait a while before trying more skill-ups in smithing. Doesn't the new LDoN expansion have new recipes for smithing in order to fill this gap?

It will also brighten teeth, make warriors happy with taunt and restore monks as exp group tanks.

Sorry, but I have no faith in the ability to 'fix' smithing because (1) fixes have to balance against the full time EQ player and (2) someone will always complain.

Just get a geerlok and brute force the cultural. It'll be much less painful in the end. Burning 60 blue diamonds to get a BP is less painful that making SS, you say? Heck yes, I reply.
