  • Making Money

I am looking for some suggestions on what to start making that sells well. I am not at 250 yet but will be soon, and I have access to all planes minus sol ro tower and elementals, which I will have soon.
What sorts of things seem to be selling well? Its hard to know just by going to the bazaar, since items dont say wether they were player made or looted....
    thanks!

Elemental armor appears to be selling well...

Ornate is killing smithed armour, I'm waiting to see what LDoN brings.
Farwater Plate is probably the best ele one to go for but you'll nice to price it well in comparison to ornate to shift it. Remember that Ornate is usable, and has full stats, at 55 while ele needs 46 to equip and doesn't get full stats until 63, iirc.

        How about things like weapons?

I know black acrylia weapons were popular for a while, is there anything like that?

Have I been slaving to get to 250 for no reason?

Ornate pretty much killed my smithing sales, yes. Everyone (including me hehe) is saving up to buy ornate stuff. the ONLY way i can see smithing can compete with Ornate is to add focus effects, clicky effects, some kind of effects to it. Level 4 foci are stupid rare drops for the places I like to hunt (any dungeon, any at all... just there aren't any since Kunark...).

As for Black Acrylia type stuff.... don't think so....

So to answer your question, please tell me you didn't slave to 250 smithing just to make a profit? If so please read one of the infinite threads telling folks to work any tradeskill because they enjoy the creating, not because they want to make a profit.

I originally started smithing because I wanted to make my very own set of Blessed Full Mithril (to wear, not sell).

At this point, though, it seems like such a big time sink that I could probably have Ornate before I'm able to make the darn stuff.

Lots of things to make, just probably won't make you tons of plat anymore, malo. Start with what's your race, do you have cultural available? Cultural still moves, but at a lot lower price than pre-ornate. Not only is everyone wanting to get ornate, but those that had the old smithed armor and have upgraded are looking to get rid of it cheap, and thus drive the market even lower. I've made some Elemental armor, and have a hard time moving it at above cost some times, as it is only slightly better than ornate and no focus effects.

There is still money to be made out there, but there's no sure fire, fast and easy way to do it.

No wonder so few people responded hehehe.
Crap well, um..... I had originally planned on maxing smithing and had hoped that that would finance other tradeskills with lots of farming involved like tailoring... so that i wouldnt have to farm stuff. Guess ill have to rethink.

The way to make money with smithing now is to get it to 240 or higher so you are max skill with geerlok, then hope and pray a future expansion comes out or some question comes out or something that lets your skill become profitable one day.

As for now, it isn't really.

Cultural was too, well cultural. Now that all(laugh) the cazic-worshipping ogre/troll SK's are moving up to ornate and selling off the cazic-thule armor I made them in the second-hand market for next to nothing, what's the point of my making more? Who would ever buy it?

If you wanted a skill to GM to produce cash to fundother skills, you should have gone with baking or brewing IMHO
