  • What are the cultural armors?

When making a character, I asked for advice on race and religion... somehow, that led to discussion of the cultural armors available to each option.

RP notions and play style aside... where can I find a list of the cultural armors. When I search for Rallos Zek, for example, I find jack.

If you go to the main EQTraders page (link in upper left corner of screen) you'll see a list of options down the left hand side.

Select Recipes, then when the recipe's list, select cultural. Don't even have to go to smithing, cultural has it's own link.

THAT will list for you, the options for each race.

I can't check those directions exactly, as the main page is blocked here at work *grrrrr* but they should be close. good luck!

Well the issue is quite complex.

      A two basic things,

      - the making / crafting of the armors is tied to the race of the smith. Basically thats why they are called cultural armors because they are part of the culture of the respective races. The diety of the crafter does not matter.

      - who can wear the finished product varies a lot, can't really give a general rule because there are too many exceptions. I suggest you check out this list as reference. Only thing for sure is that the wearers' race AND diety detemines what armor they can wear.

Well.. thanks for the directions.... but it seems to me that cultural gear sucks.

Take this item that requires >250 skill to craft, for instance:
        Fine Seafarer's Veil
        MAGIC ITEM
        Slot: FACE
        AC: 10
        HP: +30 MANA: +30
        Recommended level of 45
        WT: 3.0 Size: LARGE
        Class: RNG ROG SHM
        Race: HUM BAR HEF FRG

Now compare it to this piece of lower mid-level gear that even my level 33 Necromancer was able to save up for and purchase:
        Crystal Spider Eyes
        LORE ITEM
        Slot: FACE
        AC: 8
        WIS: +3 INT: +3 HP: +35 MANA: +35
        WT: 0.0 Size: TINY
        Class: ALL
        Race: ALL

What am I missing? I know there's something special about cultural armors because a lot of higher level chars lament their race/religion choices. It's just not obvious to me

One of the better sets of cultural armor is the Fierce Heraldic, lots of HP for plate classes and it gave rallos worshiping warriors an easily aquireable armor solution with good stats.

I don't think that its so hot anymore now that ornate armor drops more commonly in PoP tho.

Mudflation. The (new) cultural armors are reasonably old now.

I remember the hype about the Blue Diamond cultural armors. I remember being too low skill to make them. I remember evetually starting to make them, right as someone flooded the market (who also went into a mad chase to match resellers; thereby crashing the market harder than economically needed). I remember the introduction of the Froggies causing wave 2. of Heraldic armor albeit a lesser one than the original one.

And now Heraldic armor hardly sells anymore, seemingly. There's always lots for sale in the Bazaar, but no one buys - since everyone wants Ornate.
