  • What I have deduced

Halfling clerics are now my choice at smithing races. The Vale sewing kits can be made for under 4pp each, and trivial at 162, so post banded, you can burn up to that. Then, with the new Karana arrow heads, you can burn through to 188 at 6ppish per combine. No need to even touch FP and its costly failures on subcombines. From there out its a matter of using upheaval to AE mobs for Shadowscream parts. Shadows are easy to farm, I pay a person 10-20pp per (depending on number they have) to farm them, and then I farm them myself. I'd say up to 188, Halflings have it easy, and as an AE class, they have an advantage to SS. Oddly enough on Prexus, the market is soo bad that you can buy windstones off vendors fairly commonly, so Acrylia is now a viable skillup path if you watch and save. I like this, beats my human scuffing his toes on cultral or SS

I expect those arrowhead trivials to be nerfed anyways

But fine plate wasn't hard to make at all. Leather padding is always cheap and plentyfull to make

You are extremely lucky to get swirling shadows for 10-20 pp. On tholuxe, I bought all i could find for weeks for 60 pp, and now they are selling for 75-90pp each. Farming them is no picnic either, because the respawn time on the island is so slow you can continuously wipe it clean with large downtime and come away with only ~25 shadows in an hour.

Fine plate really isn't very costly or hard, so I wouldn't consider any combines <188 a valid reason to pick a race for smithing. You get points pre-180 so quickly the cost of fine plate is really not that bad even paying 20-25pp apiece for leather padding.

"Leather padding is always cheap and plentyfull to make"

Maybe on your server, but on Kane Bayle, leather padding sells for a whopping 25pp each in the bazaar! It's outrageous! I refused to pay that price for something so simple to make. Problem is - farming takes time to farm. Time=plat. But not that much plat!

If you farm pelts in Marus Seru (rockhoppers) or cat pelts in Stonebrunt then you can easily get a supply for making padding. Silks are plentiful if you know where to look.

Seems like many people on a "younger" server like Kane Bayle want to take advantage and charge a lot. In time, the prices will go down but for now its a pain to shop for components in the bazaar.

Once I hit (188) and was trivial with fine plate I thought I was done with padding. Nope - now making dwarven cultural and guess what? Yup it takes more padding. Sigh.... guess I'll keep farming...

I've hunted MS and I have to say, 25 pp is not an outrageous price for leather padding. Even at lvl 30 I was able to solo for money in Sol A on blue mobs way faster that I could get padding ingredients. Higher lvl you get the easier it gets except for the few poor classes that can't really solo at all. Most farming comes down to time vs reward and in many cases I agree prices are way too high. Windstones come to mind since you can make decent cash while you camp them, LP does not come to mind as the cash form hunting mobs that drop LQ pelts is non existant.

/snort I was looking in the bazaar tonight, I saw LP for 30, 25, 22, and 10. Oddly enough, the person who priced htem at 10p had the most to sell at just over 500 of them. That's why I decided screw FP, arrowheads are much better. As I've pointed out before, 6pp flat per combine, fail or success, vs an unknown per combine due to fails on FP.

Halfling Clerics can only worship Bristlebane.

shoots a hole in that, no?

Halfling Druids have the same advantages mentioned in the first post, and they have the added advantage of WORSHIPPING KARANA. Unlike those pesky clerics of ours who worship the trickster Bristlebane.

How does that shoot a hole in my idea? AFAIK, Karana srrowheads themselves can be made by anyone of any diety, unless I missed something big. And my choice of class was just because you will naturally have a high wisdom, which will help with any other tradeskills you take up. Correct me if I'm wrong here though

I'm afraid you did miss something big...
The Karana arrowheads can ONLY be made by Karana-worshippers, as there is a deity check to get one of the no-drop ingredients.
