  • Question about shades in Shadweaver Thicket

The question is, where the crud are they?
I have read here that they are generally around the hill covered with rocks in the NW area of the zone, but after 30 mins of killing everything I saw there, I never saw one.
I went back later in the day and spent another 30 mins, and never saw even one.
The hill in twilight sea is nice, but its often camped, so I wanted an alternative.

I don't know off hand which corner it is, but it's the corner where the zone to Paludal Caverns is.

What you're looking for are human skeleton mobs called "Lesser shade". You'll also see Vah Shir skeletons called "Hunters". Kill those as well since they're a PH for the shades.

they spawn all around the Paludal zone tunnel on the slopes behind it, etc...

    Good luck!

If you head out from Shar Vahl, you need to turn right. You can either follow the zone wall or there is a road that leads out to the area with the lesser shades and skeletal hunters. Shortly after the road ends you will see a tunnel that can take you to Paludal Caverns. The shades and hunters spawn on the hill above the tunnel mouth and on around toward the zone wall that can be followed to get there. (I do not remember which direction it is; sorry).

          Ahh NE eh?
Well the problem with saying that its near the Paludal zone, is that the tunnel that goes to the paludal zone actually branches across (ne to sw) the entire zone, with many openings. It actually splits the zone in half diaginally, and the only way to get from one half to the other is by either finding a tunnel opening (which there are many of) or by going through the very middle of the mountains where there is a pass going from one side to the other.
If you look at the zone as being divided in half like that, I was camping for them in the upper left half of the zone. Shar Vahl is in the lower right half of the zone.
So anyway, its confusing to say that its near the tunnel to paludal, because there are actually many openings to that tunnel all over the zone hehe.
In any case, ill try the NE corner this time.
One other thing that was throwing me was that I was looking for the robed figures, whereas apparently I should be looking for skeletons.
I guess I should bind there and after I clear TS island, port over and start whacking skellies.

I find them all over sometimes.

So having a character with track helps a lot, for the ones who are not static.

While you will find a few scattered about the zone, there is a concentration of them in the NE corner. You will not be efficient hunting for them trying to get the few that wander the zone though.

The NE corner seems to be the best spot, but I find that it's often camped. What I normally do is start at the tents outside Shar Vahl and commence running north, killing everything there is on one side of the path. Once I hit the PC tunnel on the north side of zone, I go to the other side of the path and kill everything back south to the tents.

Not only does this usually result in a good number of swirling shadows, but also fair quantities of supplies to make leather paddings. The larger hoppers drop quality pelts often, and there are plenty of wandering worms for the threads.

So my smithing friends get swirling shadows, and I get 1-2k of paddings in my trader satchels. Very win-win.

Yes, it is often camped, but there are times of the day that are better than others.

The nice part about it, though, is that it is the spawn spot for lesser shades. Kill everything that spawns around there, and then do it over again. Everything that spawns in that area is a potential lesser shade waiting to happen.

Funny (?) thing happened to me the other day. I was headed toward Paludal Caverns baby side because one of my guildies had made a new necromancer character and I had a couple twink items I had picked up on a run through ToFS recently. I was maybe six steps away from the book when a shout comes up:

                  Dr00d shouts: LESSER SHADES CAMPED!
                  Dr00d shouts: LESSER SHADES CAMPED!
                  Dr00d shouts: LESSER SHADES CAMPED!
                  Dr00d shouts: LESSER SHADES CAMPED!

Weird. Okay. Whatever. I start running on the road toward Paludal entrance. Then I start getting tells:

Dr00d tells you: What are you doing here? Lesser shades camped!!!!

I send him back a tell saying something to the effect of that I had a guildie in Paludal Caverns and I was delivering some twink gear. He said, "Oh, I saw you were higher level and figured you were after lesser shades." I informed him that usually when I was in this zone I WAS after lesser shades, but this time I was on a different errand. I checked and he was level 20. He said "Oh, well, they're camped." I sent back a tell saying "No? Really? I never would have guessed."

I did not tell him that if I wanted the lesser shades I could bloody well take the camp from him if I wanted ... given that he was so intensely irritating about it I was half tempted. But I was planning to camp and go out to dinner, I didn't have the time to harrass him.

A couple days later, I saw him in trader mode with swirling shadows for sale for 100pp each.

                  Putz.

                  Next time I'll MAKE time...

How can you call them a CAMP? I've been hunting them (gotta love Sense Undead! ) and found them all over the place. Even non-stop killing I wasn't able to get out of shades - and I kill them and the PH's in 1-2 hits.

It's pretty much impossible to run out of shades if you're the only one there, but once you get two or more people killing them they do get scarce. Nothing more annoying than working for an hour and suddenly somebody starts grabbing the one you just targeted!

But that dr00d sounds even more annoying!
