The subject may sound like a brewing topic, but I would rather like an answer from blacksmiths that had to farm components themselves (Not those rich lazy ones that can just buy at 200pp a pop in bazaar! Lol I'm just jealous)
Ok, I was thinking of making a bard, and my friend was becoming a blacksmith (180 skill now I think, he's human). I have a higher skill, but I thought I would let him have a chance since my smith is retired. So we looked at old cultural for him, but we realised that the stats, well, sucked, especially for a bard (Almost made an RZ bard :P) And those components were just too tough to get. So we figured we'd do acrylia. (not the best stats for a bard, beats old cult though, I liked the AC) So right now I have 13 essences of wind (easy enough to get, I can stand 1 or 2 hours with my Choker of Majdd (Worn: See invis for air elementals), even though they are rarer than the other mobs and drop like 1 in three kills), 13 vials of clear mana (these I bought in bazaar, don't think me to be a hypocrite from the opening paragraph, they were 20pp and I can afford that).
Here's the problem. Windstones. I found the earth elementals in Twilight Sea were terrible for them. They, as I found, are probably rarer than air elementals, and drop windstones maybe 1 time in 15-20 kills. (Though they may just seem rare, it goes with the old saying about if you're only out for 1 thing its the thing you will find the least.) So we went to Tenebrous Mountains. We took out the grimling caves easy enough, but we had 1 drop in 4 sweeps of the caves, so that definetly wasn't worth it. (There are about 35 grimlings in a cave). We looked for cral ligi, which apparently dropped it, and out of 4 kills, we got 2. That was good, but we spent about an hour on those 4 kills. They seem to have no 1 spawn point, and I wish that they were in a camp. Can anyone tell me where to farm windstones easily enough without buying them? We had about 4 drop, a guildie gave me 5, and my friend (being rich) bought 1k worth in the Bazaar, but didn't want to go over that. (I don't blame him at 200pp per)
Edit: Of course, he's probably going to fail half the suit, and I didn't take that into account. The shadowscream stuff seems easy enough to farm (spent 20 minutes in Twilight Sea, got 2 stacks of swirling shadows, don't know about the other stuff though but it seems to me that Hollowshade has a lot of camps of both owlbears and wolves, so we may farm that stuff for skillups.
Thanks
