  • Dwarven smithing question

    Hello,

I am returning to everquest after about a year off. Before I quit I aquirred a skill in smithing of 115. My question is this. I am not in this to make grandmaster I just want a new suit of amour blessed by my god. I would like to make The old dwarven enchanted armour. What would my chances be at succeding in this. I currently have the breastplate. I would like to get a bracer, greaves, boots, neck, face. shoulders and guantlets. I think I currently have just over 2000kp.

Would this even be possible or would I just be throwing my pp away. I don't have the time to farm all the ingredients and I know 2000pp given to a smith won't really cover their costs. If I could make some of these pieces myself that would be really cool.

Thanks in advance for any information or tips that might be given

    Take care!

Well.... If you were to get all the tempers needed it is possible to make the old world armor on what you have (in Theory). If you are asking if you could make it at your current skill... That is doubtful, the skills required are about the same for dwarven as they are for High elven and I fail some times still on the old world stuff at 220.

If your God is Brell, 12 rubies will wipe out half a 2k budget (131 x 7 = 917pp), then factor in temper costs etc. - of course this is taking blessed by your God literally.

At 112 skill you're not going to have much success at making the stuff - expect a lot of failures.

For 1k you could get your skill into the 150-160s I'd guess, which would give you a decent chance to make the old style cultural, but you'd need to get tempers from somewhere, plus brewing, plus enchanter costs (although not necessarily for a dwarf I think).

Seems unlikely, but possible to get a couple of the pieces you like.

If he mean 2,000 K Plat... or 2,000,000 Plat... he has enough to buy it out right. But if his budget is only 2,000 Plat... you are a bit short.

          Hmm...

          He says "Old Dwarven Enchanted"

If that's the case, then you're talking no rubies.

          HOWEVER,

Don't even think about it at 115 skill. Skill up your blacksmith first to at LEAST 150+ if not 180+ THEN try and make the enchanted dwarven.

If however, you are talking about the old style enchanted AND imbued cultural, then I'd think twice. The trivials are all over 200.

          Good luck with it!

Thanks for the info. I guess I will spend the 1000pp and raise my skill up a little before I try. I meant to say 2000pp not 2000kpp. I wish I had that much money but if I did I wouldn't have to make armour I could just buy it lol.

I believe I have a brewing skill in the 150 range so I think I am ok there. I killed the undead cyclops in one of the karanas and made a skull ale or something. It was a long time ago.

The enchanted Ore is the hard part. What do people usually charge for this? I was thinking that I would buy the spell for them and pay them a fair rate. I just do not know what a fair rate is.

I am a 51 paladin. When I quit I gave most of my gear to a friend who does not play anymore and I have no way to get in touch with him. Stupid me, but I did not think I would ever play again. I am now in it for the long haul. No biggie I just realized last night That I need better ac. I got absolutely mauled last night by a frost giant savage. I remember that I used to be able to handle these with ease.

I guess I could farm low level dungeons to raise pp to buy gear But that type of playing really is not my style. No fun. Its cool for trade skilling as it seems it necessary for components . I just remember drooling for an fbss and trying to get in a camp. Upon reaching it finding it always camped by a level 60 necro or something.

I would like the imbued ruby version being a Paladin but I don't think it is practical. The enchanted has nice stats and would server well in getting me started again. Maybe I will just make the non enchanted or imbued versions at first.

I just want to say that this is really a great board. I used to lurk here quite a bit. Great information and a pleasant flame free enviorment. Keep up the great work maybe when I become uber (lol) I will take up serious trade skilling again.

Well, back when I was paying for enchanting, I usually did 10pp per brick, and yes I bought them the spell if they didn't have it.

The price got pretty steep, pretty fast though.

Now, I have several enchanter friends to help me out, though I usually only ask one in my guild. She's pretty good natured about it.

I wouldn't bother with the non imbued/enchanted. Just get yer skill up and go for the regular enchanted. it's good stuff, and my 54 dwarven warrior wears most of a set of it still. Not to shabby at all

              Good luck with it!

If you do farm, you might consider Crystal Caverns for velium (and the orcs drop plat as well).

Or SolA for fine steel to sell etc...

Well, KEI takes 900 mana, enchant brellium takes 325 mana. You'd probably go 1/3 the rate of a hit, modified by:

1 - you don't need to be 60 to enchant (lower price)
2 - you will require multple enchants (higher, since enchants for a full set of armour takes hours)

I know I wouldn't take 10pp for it, and I would take 100. Between that, shrug. Depends on how much you need done.
