Polished Serpent Scale used in smithing???

I was exploring the low side of Echo Caverns the other day when I ran across a guy camping Taskmaster Torkazh. I asked why he was camping him (having never been in Echo before) and he said he was waiting for a "Polished Serpent Scale" to drop because a friend of his offered to smith an item for his Shammy alt with it. I helped him get the kill and left it at that, figuring to find more info here. No go unless I missed it somewhere, I have not been able to find any info on this item here or elsewhere. I went back and camped the TM myself and when it dropped I noticed that it does not have the tradeskill tag. Anyone know what, if anything, the Polished Serpent Scale is used for? Or do I have more vendor fodder. Thanks.

Check the item

If the polished serpent scale is used for smithing, when you right click and hold, it should say "This item may be used for tradeskills". If it doesn't say that, it's definitely vendor fodder.

The only reason to camp the TM is to get rare shissar organs needed for Katta EB neck piece quest. You nee to turn in 3 for the necklace. Pretty nice piece, still my choice for EB item.
