Researcher Alvari, and his faithful sidekick Assistant Vagli use modified skill in determining who gets the book. Not your real skill.
In basic terms, this means that While 95+Geerlok, I would imagine, doesn't work, 100+Geerlok does. (I did this myself.)
He needs 101 to give out the book, At level 35, with a max research of 100, I told him I was an enchanter. He told me to come back when I was older. I put on a geerlok, told him I was an enchanter, and he believes me now.
